I was just wondering what parents of children in the military thought of our present leadership? Would you want Kerry as the commander of our troops? Just wondering, you as parents have so much at stake.

My son joined the miltary and left for boot camp on July 3, 2003. He enlisted as an MP well aware that we were at war. I am so proud of him every day that passes.
I fully intend to vote for Bush in this years election. My son has told us that if Kerry gets elected it will be a nightmare for soldiers based on kerry views and attitude of the military.

I am not saying these things to start a debate, nor will I respond to anything to start one. I am relaying what he has said to me.

I liked Bush even before the conflict in Iraq and I feel he is doing a good job heandling everything. I am at peace.......

As a "child" in the military who knows my parents, I can say that my mom will vote for Kerry. Not so sure on my dad; he probaly will not decide until he is in the voting booth. The fact that Kerry will be my commander in chief will not factor into her decision.

My son is in the Army and spent eight months in Iraq when the war started. I'm voting for Bush.

I don't trust that Kerry will keep the military in the equipment and supplies it needs to do the jobs they're asked to do. I believe the military will be one of the first places he'll cut. He already voted against it once--after he voted for it, of course :teeth:

I can't see him doing a lot to ensure the necessary funds are available.

Having a friend in the Army 27 years who is a Colonel and a Commander, I can tell you that he's personally voting for Bush!

My MIL is Canadian (my BIL is in the US Army) but if she could vote, it would be for Kerry.

My dad retired AF is going for Kerry as well.

My ds is in the army and has been in Iraq since April 1. He is not happy with Bush, but he out and out fears Kerry. The thought of what will happen to them over there with Kerry in the white house gives us nightmares. The stories he tells are nothing like what the media sends home. He has noticed a huge difference in the Iraqi people in the last few weeks. He said more and more of them come out and help them and show support for the job that they are doing. He is amazed at the change. Where once little children would throw things at them in the streets, now they cheer and wave as they pass through. This could all change very quickly if Kerry were to win. We truly fear for his life if Kerry wins.

Interesting question. My Aunt Mary sent this out to our family list this morning - her son, Richie, is in the Army in Korea (about to deploy to Iraq)
__________

I have actually tried hard to avoid the back and forth rhetoric. But it is good to see someone take a stab at an illuminating opinion about the upcoming election. I admire their spirit albeit their obvious naivete.

In speaking about the recent terrorist attacks around the world I would point out that people have been blowing each other up since someone discovered that gunpowder and hate was an effective combination. And hate has existed since the beginning of time...excuse me...since the beginning of man.

Some people think that this election is about who can keep us safe from terrorism. There will always be hate. Some children are brought up to hate. And then they get to be grown ups and blow up planes, children on buses and good, young soldiers.

Bush has lied to us a million more times than he has spoken the truth...and not just about whether this country is safe or not. You'd have to be a moron to believe that we are safe, were safe, or will ever be safe.

We were supposed to go into Iraq and get out. That was 1,000 lives ago.

And, the gravest danger to us is not terrorist attack, it is our failing educational system, our health care system, and our extremely fragile economy (with the exception of those of you who have been fortunate enough to maintain the status quo financially - by the way - that was your doing, not Bush's).

Finally, and then I will get off my high horse, political conventions have never been about truth telling - they are about winning and losing, which is why, I guess, we keep losing.

Love ya,

Aunt Mary

DH is Gulf War I Vet and is a staunch supporter of Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. and fears for our soldiers if Kerry gets elected.

My DH is in the military and he is going to vote for Bush. All of the people we know in the military would rather have Bush than Kerry. They do not like Kerry for a number of reasons. MIL and FIL do not like Bush or Kerry. However, they are going to vote for Bush.

My Step-father is in the army and is career military (26years so far) our whole family will be voting for Bush. The military suffered financially while Clinton was the President, when Bush was elected he gave a 7 percent pay raise to military, under Clinton it was 1 percent per year. My Mother watched young military wives have to buy food at the commisary (sp) with food stamps. My Step-father was a drill sargeant at the time and said that they were forced to dry fire during weapons trainning because bullets were too costly. I am not starting a debate either, because my decision isn't up for debate and neither should anyone else's.

Sorry to veer off topic but this caught my eye.

Your Aunt states that those that managed to maintain status quo with their financial situation did so without Bush's help.

I'm wondering if this means that she believes that those that have fallen on harder times are because of something Bush did (or didn't do).

What's not clear (or stated) is who (what income levels) was able to maintain their status quo regardless of what Bush didn't do to help.

What did he not do (or do) that helped some folks and not others?

Why were some able to do it on their own while others couldn't?

Please don't take the wrong way and that I'm trying bait people into a debate. I'd really like to know.

Ha! I was going to start a thread of this exact thing! All 4 of my young adult children have many friends in Iraq. In fact one of them was interviewed on CNN!

When asked who they would vote for, every single one of them said Bush, and from what it sounds like every soldier they know says the same.

The one friend of my daughter that was interviewed said the same thing that Powellrj said about the media.

They have all said they did the right thing being there and they wish more of America would support them being there. He then went on to say that he never made so much $$$ before and he and his family thanks bush for that! LOL

Well, I don't have a kid in the military, but my dad is ex-army and we have several friends in the military and former military and every one of them are voting for Bush. Our highest ranking friend is a General and was in on the operation that caught Saddam and he tells amazing stories that are nothing like what the news reports. It's as if the reporters have forgotten the whole other side of the story.

Our son is currently serving in Iraq.
Our entire family is for BUSH all the way and have total confidence in his leadership and re-election.

God Bless America!
 Sandie
