Parents that don’t get it – “I want my kids to remember it…..”

We take our son to disney b/c we LIKE disney...it's a vacation for us too. Many parents don't like disney and go once 'for the kids'. Different strokes, different folks.

We went when our son was 22 months- he is now 27 months and still talks about it- he will tell you all about the boat rides and nemo and he requests us to sing and play the piano tune of 'IASW'.

We are going back in November- he'll be 34 months and I know we will probably go again before his 4th birthday. We just LOVE Disney. Lots of people don't though and I totally get that too.

My son went to WDW for the first time at 14 months and went again at 23 months. So, of course I'm all for taking small kids to WDW. But, when my son was 8 and my daughter was 22 months, we took a trip with just DH, my son, and I. We left my daughter at home with family where she could sleep in her own bed every night and carry on with her normal daily routine. Our reasons for leaving her at home was not because she wouldn't remember it. But that was a pro to help us be ok with leaving her at home with family.

My son made so many sacrifices when his sister was born, me having to be on bedrest for 6 months, and his life changing. Due to my medical issues with the pregnancy, me not working anymore and going back to school when she was 5 weeks old, etc, his whole lifestyle changed. And he did it all with a grateful heart and almost no complaining. We wanted to give him a trip where he could be the center of attention again, if only for a week.

Do I regret leaving my young daughter at home? Not at all. I felt better leaving her there since she never knew what she was missing. It was fun letting my son be an only child again for one week. Whenever I called home she was always doing fine. She was with family she saw every day since my sister and niece lived with us at the time.

Every family has their own reasons for leaving kids at home or wanting to wait (or not wait). You do what works for YOUR family. There is no need to judge anyone else or certainly no need to understand them.
