I have mentioned before on other threads that I seem to be a magnet for lost children. Maybe because I have that motherly look (I have 5 kids) or maybe because I was a first grade teacher for many years. Kids just seem to trust me.

Well, I found another child today at Universal. This adds to my collection of lost children from Disneyland (1 child), WDW (4 children), Knotts Berry Farm (1 child), Universal Hollywood (1 child), US Orlando (2 children), and IoA (1 child).

Tonight at 7:30 PM I saw a child walking from MIB all the way past Jaws. At first I thought he was just lagging behind his parents but after watching him, I realized that he was alone. I asked him if he was lost and all he said was "papa." Poor little fellow didn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish but I held up five fingers to guess at his age. He shook his head and held up 4 fingers. I then pointed to myself and said my name and pointed to him and so he said his name was David. I had a store manager call security. Luckily, the security guy they sent spoke Spanish although he couldn't get much more information out of him than I had already gotten.

We waited for a time to see if "papa" would be returning but there was not information of any lost child on the park radio. David wanted me to stay with him and didn't want to go with security so we all walked together to guest services---with David and I hand in hand. It was almost an hour before his father contacted security. I am sure most of the reason was because of the language barrier.

Please if you have a young child, especially one who doesn't speak English, put a dogtag or something on them with your name and your child's name, preferably with a cellphone number. I know many people are worried about putting their child's name on anything because of the fear of abductors calling their name, but, truthfully, you child is much more apt to get lost than abducted at a theme park. There haven't been any documented abductions at the parks but there are lost children every single day.

The good news is that Papa was found and he hugged me as thanks. Little David waved 'bye-bye" to me as he left with Papa no worse for the wear although Papa looked traumatized.

I sure am glad you found David, so he had a nice "fairy godmother" to look after him til Papa could be located! This is a great idea and I will certainly label my 4 and 6 y-o's with names and cell numbers. Thanks!

Bev..You are so correct about ID for children. For some reason, when parents are on vacation, some ( I am not saying all) of them leave the common sence at home. Another tip I would like to say is for the older ones (teens)...if they have a cell phone, be sure they have Mom and/or Dad's cell number in their phone directory & have it labled Mom or Dad. My son had an accident/incident & wasn't communicting very clearly at that point...he gave the officer his cell & mumbled call my MOM. The officer went to the phone book in the cell, went to Mom...and called me. By that time my son passed out...and ended up in the ER....had he not had that, the officer wouldn't have been able to get in touch with me so fast.... So it is very important for kids...young & older to have info on them...

I have always put the kids info on the back of a businees card including numbers where we are staying. At Disney I would take a Polaroid of the kids in the morning and keep it in case they got lost. I could show what they looked like and what they were wearing.

In the past 3 weeks I've found 2 lost kids and one lost parent. Luckely it wasn't that long for us to find the parent.

When we went to WDW, I laminated a small card with a) child's name b) parents' names c) hotel information d) cellphones e) grandfather's cellphone (he was at home, but I thought if necessary she could talk to him till we hooked back up with her!). I pinned it inside her pocket everyday!

I found (through one of these threads) the child ID site that sells all sorts of ID for children which is a wonderful idea! The site is: www.childid.com Hope someone could use this. I am ordering 3 for my grandchildren, I'd be more at ease with them having these on.

Also, one more hint, if you have a digital camera, take a pic of the kids first thing in the AM, that way you'll have it, God forbid you need it. Be safe people!

I always have ID printed for my kids in The USA with photo also giving hotel, etc details on it we also have a copy in case we lose them and not them losing us:jester:

I know at Disney you can get little ID tags for your kids. I got some a few years ago when my DDs were 5 and 2. They look like little luggage tags and the CMs give you a pin to pin it on them. I got mine at the Guest Relations inside Magic Kingdom.

I am not sure about at Universal. But you could easily make your own with those luggage tags that you get at the airport counters.

I'd think that using a marker like a Sharpie to write a cell phone number on the child's arm or hand would be a definite hedge against an id tag getting lost. It will eventually wear off, but in the meantime it certainly won't get lost.
