Parents or Friend

My SIL offered to sell their friend their van, with no prior discussion with my Brother. The friend said she needed to think about it. During this time my brother mentioned this to my parents who said they would be interested in buying it since their vehicle was becoming unreliable and they would soon need a vehicle to get mom to chemo and work. The friend had a vehicle, her husband's vehicle broke down and now he always takes her vehicle. She lives within walking distance of her shop.

Who would you sell the vehicle to?

OOO this is a hard situation. Fairly the person who is offered it first should be able to get it, BUT my DH would not like it is I offered it to someone without consulting him first...but then again thats not the person's fault that is was offered too.

If the friend is sympathetic then maybe it will be okay with him/her if your SIL withdraws the offer by explaining that your parents really need it.

This is a situation where you have to hope your SIL's friend's will understand.

I think to be fair, I would tell the friend of the need that the family has for the van and hope they understand. Then I would most likely sell the van to the family since they truly desire it and have the need for it.

Disnee Dad Says.................................Neither, as soon as there is a problem it will be the sellers fault. Maybe the parents wouldn't blame, but the friend probably will. So go with parents.

Same reason you don't loan money to friends or family unless you are ok with not getting it back.

I would explain the situation to the friend and hope they understand and then sell it to the parents.

Let me add that the dad is always working on his house and/or cars I think that THEY are entitled to buy the van.....Family comes first....
