That’s probably what we’re going to have DS do too. He has his own checking and savings account but will know if he needs money, to talk to us.

Totally off topic, but DD bowled her first ever 200 game (209) on Saturday. Her average is about 130, so it was quite unexpected :)

Two weeks prior, she had her first 500 series (3 game total). She’s getting hot just in time to age out of the league LOL

DS got into the university of Maryland which is one of his top choices. It’s pretty competitive to get in, and 45 min away so I am really happy. He doesn’t know if he got into his major, which is a limited enrollment program, guess that comes later. He was invited into a learning community which is kind of like an honors program but not “the” honors college. It sounds interesting...they offer gen ed classes around certain themes and live in certain dorms together. A good way to make a huge school smaller. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is where he decides to go but he’s still got three schools that he hasn’t heard from yet.

Edited to add that after DS talked to other friends, he realized he did get into his major. We thought a little section on the letter was just noting what he’d applied for but it actually meant what he was accepted for.

Dd got into villanova’s honors college, but was not invited to apply for the St. Augustine scholarship. It would be off the table anyway, tbe scholarship is only $15,000 a year, and COA is $68,000 a year. Scranton gave her almost $39,000 a year making it about the same as UDel and Quinnipiac for annual cost after scholarships. UDel is in the lead, but she’s never been to Scranton. A Princeton alumni reached out to schedule an interview, hasn’t received financials from Muhlenberg or URI. Muhlenberg also depends on acceptance to Jefferson for the doctorate. I’m so glad she does this all on her own, will the essays even end.

We were supposed to have speech contest a week ago. Due to weather, it was postponed to Wednesday. On Wednesday it was postponed to Thursday. On Thursday they had it but our school had been cancelled due to blowing snow so admin said no to us going. DD was quite distressed at the possibility of not getting to perform at all. But we got worked into another district that had postponed to yesterday. Some kids had jazz band in the morning, so they put us in afternoon slots and everyone made their schedules work. So glad it worked out. DD's two events are both going to State on Saturday!

Roommate site opened up today. So far there are just 4 girls for her LLC, including her. I'm sure more will trickle in. But I got the text "I have found a girl and I love her" :rotfl:. Told her not to make a decision first day but she does sound nice and same interests as DD. Will be interesting to see what happens.

We keep getting flyers and e-mails from the schools DD has been accepted to that are alerting her to the deadline for preferred housing. She still has to hear from 3 schools and won't make her decision until after then so we're not going to get preferred housing no matter what. Hopefully they can give her a good roommate!

Signing up for accepted students days. I think this will help Dd decide. I think it’s really between UDel and Scranton (same price after scholarships, 2 hours away, honors college, but different from each other, both with great PT facilities). The plus for Scranton is that she is accepted into the 3/3 program, so accepted into the doctorate program. But, she is committed to PT. UDel she will major in exercise program, and then have to get accepted to the 2 year doctorate program. But she’s a really great student.

DS got acceptance to last school he was waiting on this week (Clarkson U in Postdam NY right on Canadian border)! It was his #1 but now he's not sure. We won't hear about merit until late February. He also got an unexpected merit scholarship from SUNY Buffalo-we had written it off as too big but we never even visited so I guess we have to go see it now as it is now the cheapest option and a great school. So we need to plan visits to SUNY Buffalo, Clarkson U and FL Tech. With current weather this week I'm leaning toward FL Tech.:D

DS has gotten acceptances to all the schools he applied to (yay). He has narrowed it down to his top two choices. We're registered for admitted student's days at both -- one in February and one in March. (We could go sooner, and they'd be "excused" absences, but he'd rather not miss class for them so we scheduled for days when he's already off.)

If I'm understanding correctly one of the schools does housing priority based on when you submit your deposit. So, if he decides on that one, he'd be better off to decide it now. For the other one, I don't think that freshmen get any choice aside from requesting a specific roommate (if both request each other) and requesting a specific living/learning community, but your first choice isn't guaranteed (and if you're also requesting a roommate then you also have to request the same LLCs in the same order.) And, from what I can tell, the LLCs move around from year to year and are a closely guarded secret... so there's really no way to guess where you'll be placed.)

Congratulations to everyone getting acceptances and making decisions! Time is going faster and faster!

I'm jealous of all getting to move forward with college plans. DS is waiting on six. At two schools, he should have a reasonable/good chance of getting in. The other four are total mysteries but include his current favs. Decisions won't be out until mid-March-April 1.

I'm not sure if it is better to put in housing for the state school he got in already or just see how things play out. DD18 also has to sign up for housing now for sophomore year and they are thinking of moving off campus.

I think I'm just going to go with what the kids decide and if they end up with fewer choices by waiting, it's on them.

How are everyone's kids handling senioritis?

Sounds familiar. We're waiting on 3 schools also and DS is not prepared to make a decision yet or send in any non-refundable deposits. He needs to be applying to the honors college and living community offers he's gotten and scholarships too, but he hasn't moved on any of it yet. Pretty soon I'm going to have to start bugging him again, which I hate doing.

Sounds like our house-she has heard from 7 schools (5 yeses with scholarships, 2 nos) but there are still 4 pending. I have no doubt one will be a rejection but the other 3 are up in the air. Two are tied for her first place choices so if she gets into one but not the other the decision will be made. If neither, then we're in a pickle. Late Mar/early Apr still seem sooooo far away!

I did have her put in housing for the state school; even if she doesn't go or get it, it was $25 and I'd rather have the insurance of knowing she's on that list. All the others are more expensive and we'll just have to wait and roll the dice.

That's what we're doing as well. DS feels like he needs second visits (and in one case, a first) to decide.

Plus, DH hasn't seen one of the front-runners, as he was away for work when DS and I saw that one.

Second visits can be so helpful, especially if the first visit was in the summer or another time when the college was not in session. My DD19 had narrowed her choices down to 4 schools and we had visited all of them, but our visits had been in the summer. She almost decided on one, but then said she wanted to visit all 4 again. Thank goodness we did. Some schools have a very different vibe when school is in session and the one she almost chose turned out to be her (and our) least favorite after the second visit.

I work in the office at the school my kids attend. I returned to my office to find 2 boxes that had been delivered while I was out, and I opened the first one without paying attention to where it was from. It was the caps and gowns that the seniors ordered! DS is the first alphabetically, and his was the first one I saw, and I just about lost it. This is getting real!

Our Homecoming is this weekend, we have it during basketball season (no football team). DS decided at the last minute that he will go and he is going to escort one of the queen candidates during that ceremony. The game was supposed to be last night, but the other team was unable to come due to icy roads. They will crown the queen at the beginning of the event tonight instead, and I'm so excited that he is going! He is an introvert and never goes to these things.

DS signed up for an accepted student day in April at UMd. We haven’t seen it literally in a year (toured last Feb.) and it was pouring rain so he needs to see the campus again and the academic stuff will be interesting. He has to be there at 8am so that means driving in rush hour on the DC Beltway. I do it every day for work but he is not experienced with it so that makes me nervous. I guess I need to start letting go of some of that, he is 18 and can go himself. (Plus it’s the day before I go out of town for work so I won’t be able to go with him anyway)

To kill the time, I looked up projected decision dates based on past years and put them all in my phone. Lol

Two of his favs and most unknown odds of acceptance will be his last 2 decisions. Hopefully he will get an acceptance of two before that. I'm looking at accepted student days to see when they are too. I'd really like him to go if he can since we visited in summer.

It's tough because this is his hardest semester and AP review sessions will be going on in April.
