Do you use an internet filter and/or logger for your teens? I found this thread:

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=859113&page=1&pp=15&highlight=internet+filter

but am wondering how prevalent it is to use them.

We have comcast, and they provide McAfee. I fiddled with it for a while this morning, but couldn't even get it to block specific sites.

And honestly, I'm not clear on how filters work anyway. How can a filter tell what is in a picture?

I'm especially concerned about myspace.com. Would really like to block that.

Lois, I was able to block Myspace and Xanga using the features in Internet Explorer. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> Enable -> Approved Sites. Enter the web sites you want to block, and then hit the "Never" button.

This will work fine for me for specific sites I know I want to block, but I'm also concerned about what they might "stumble on" inadvertently.

For those of you who bought or downloaded a product, which one? And how is it working out?

I bought Content Watch last Jan (2005). It does a very good job of screening for unacceptable sites/material. My only beef is sometimes it works too well and you will find yourself typing in your personal password to override the filter. But I guess I would rather do that than worry about what is being accessed! :thumbsup2
