Parents of children who are taking/have taken GCSEs

we havent been charged any admin fee at my sons school

Wel, having written to the school to ask them to justify the costs, Sian's form came home with a sticky note saying 'Please return with £2 admin costs to cover posting of certificates'. I'm still not convinced as she is returning ot the school in September for 6th form. However, I sent in a chq for £45 to cover prom, yearbook and admin costs only for them to reject my cheque because, apparently, the £2 needs to go into a different account so needs to be a separate payment - that school is really starting to get on my nerves

Kirsty is off to Thorpe Park with the school as their end of year trip and they are charging £34.50. I now think her school must be making on this too!!! It must be catching. We definately don't live that far from Thorpe Park because even I can drive there and I don't drive hardly anywhere nowdays!!!

Hope they all have a great time and wish I was going with them.

I would question this because I know the school my DDs go to are quite open with parents regarding trips and they have told us they are not allowed to make a profit from any school outings. We recently all got a £1.50 refund from a recent outing as more kids had gone so the individual costs went down. :thumbsup2

It might be the cost of the coaches. I know our coaches cost between £200 -£250 and they seat around 50. The costs could also cover staff tickets...

Having said that, there is usually a discount on ticket prices for school bookings.

Bit of a cheek re the £2 ~ the most they should have been asking for was an SAE.

It's interesting reading on here what other schools charge for things. My eldest DD left school last year ~ she collected her GCSE results but there would have been no charge for posting them out, the yearbook was £5, and her prom ticket cost £15 but was refunded if the student had exemplary behaviour and completed a minimum number of hours study revision. OK, I know it's bribery but it worked for DD and her friends :rotfl2:

My middle DD is off on a trip to Thorpe Park with the same school next month ~ they are paying £33 each but I think that's reasonable as it also covers coach fare and the supervising adults' entrance tickets.
