Parents, do you agree with what my principal told the students?Added info bottom pg2

If your DH walked in tonight as you were pulling some meat out of the fridge, planning to cook supper as you usually would, and he said, "Hey, put that back in the fridge. Let's take a break tonight, I wanna take you out for a nice supper." then that would not be considered an Act-of-Kindness on his part?

I think a beter comparision in this situation would be if dinner was already in the oven, or even on the table. You would have to do more owrk, to work around his act of kindness. The teachers don't just decide on a whem, oh I'll asign homework tonight. In most situationst is a part of their lesson plans, and would throw off the schedule for the next day, if not for the next several days.

The principal obviously considered this an Act-of-Kindness for the STUDENTS... Giving THEM a break from THEIR work.
So, your analogy is the one that is not quite right.

It may not have been intended as an Act of Kindness for the teachers. Maybe a bit of inconvenience. But, inconveniences happen... Assemblies, Fire Drills, Snow days, power outages, Flu epidemics. IMHO, the teachers should remain flexible. Any one teachers lesson plan does not dictate the whole school.

I thought you may like my son's point of view on this one. I asked DS who is a Junior in HS, and gets about 2-4 hrs/night more on weekends...he takes AP Classes.
He thought that was a great way to show students how nice it feels to have an act of kindness given to them from their principal. If the teacher gives them more the next night to make up for it, is O.K. because students wish for a break from homework and of course a snow day!
He thinks it's a great way to get the students to reciprocate the act to fellow students as well. They may actually think of a nice way to surprise someone with all that free time they have!
