Parents...Did you break the rule of three?

I was having a casual conversation with a genetics counselor about genetics and babies. The subject of girl or boy and ways to predict came up. I learned that if 2 children of the same gender are born to the same people the third child born is the same sex as the previous two over 90% of the time! I didn't believe it at first and then got to thinking. I know so many families with 4 children(or more) where there are three of the same sex and then another child, sometimes boy, sometimes girl. My mom had three girls then my brother. I am curious how many families here fell into this pattern?

My DH is one of five..one girl, four boys

My family has 3 girls then a boy, DH's family has boy, girl, boy, boy, boy, girl.

I've never heard of this but I can tell you I know way more people who have had two girls first then a boy. The only one I can think of that has all 3 girls is my sister.

I'm not sure if this is the same as your example, but if you have 4 children, the odds are that 3 will be one sex, 1 will be the other. But, I know several families with 4 boys!

My mom had 2 girls (only 10 months & 3 days apart) & then a boy.

I have two older brothers, I am the only girl....so we didn't fit in that "rule". ;)

True for my mom and dad, 3 girls, 3 years apart each, then 10 years later a boy

I guess we did... We had two boys first, then our girl.

I only have two children; 1 girl, 1 boy.

However, DH is the youngest of 5, and the only boy. I am the youngest of 5, and the only girl. My neighbors have 3; 2 boys and 1 girl. Another friend has 4, all girls.

It goes Girl boy boy boy boy girl in my family....

My brother has 3 boys :flower:

My Family is 3 (2 Boys - 1 Girl) in that order.

DH's Family is 9 (4 boys - 1 girl - 4 boys) in that order.

My mother-in-law gave birth to 14 children - 3 girls, 3 boys, 3 girls, 3 boys, 2 girls - and adopted another girl..

:scared1: Wow. Just wow.

Nope, we don't follow that rule--boy, girl, girl, boy. Further more, only two of them share the same eye color (#2 & #4), which is a different eye color than either DH or I---#1 shares DH's eye color, #3 has mine. The other two have the same color as my maternal grandfather & aunt. My maternal grandmother, my mother & everyone on my father's side have the same eye color as I do.

Genetics can be a rather odd & fascinating subject. I drive DH nuts by sitting & working it all out verbally. :rotfl:
