Parents can sterilze 11 year old girl

Sounds like the right decision was made in this case. I'm happy for them. :thumbsup2

I believe she was getting the Depo-Provera shots. They usually make it so you only have cycles every 3 months or so.

The only time you get a "real" regular period on depo provera is if you get your next shot late. If you can keep them on time, the periods are usually so light that they aren't even noticed or they go away completely.

I'm definitely in favor of this ruling. I hope the girl/her family can get some relief from those seizures now.

The daughter of my teaching partner has Rett's. This decision is in the best interest of the child, absolutely.:thumbsup2

If it only it were easier for other families in this situation to do the same thing. I used to work in a home for people with profound disabilities. Those poor women had no idea what was happening to their bodies every month, they just knew it was uncomfortable at the best, painful at the worst.

I understand being upset over he forced sterilization of anybody with a disaiblity, but this is not hte same thing. We're talking about a girl who is unable to understand what is happenign to her body or express her own wishes as to what is to be done to it. I think that we can all agree that if a girl who is capable of expressing her wishes, then it should bne up to her.
