So, I'm applying for the Spring program. I've heard a lot about some parents going with their kids for the first few days, but I don't know at what age this becomes silly or inappropriate. I'd love for my dad to come with me, but not only would this take a few days from his work, but it would also cost a lot of money. To top it off, I'm already 21, so I feel like I should be more independent. Of course, having a car would be great for getting supplies at first, and since I don't have one, him coming along and renting one would be very convenient. However, I don't want him to feel like I only want him along for that. This is my first time spending so much time so far away from home, but should I just suck it up and say "bye, daddy" or am I worrying too much about it?

I did the program last spring. Everyone in our apartment was at least 21, and everyone had at least one parent come along (some of us more- my roommate brought her mom, dad, and sister in two cars to bring all her stuff down haha). Personally, I think having someone to help you is a great thing. It gives your parent a chance to see where you'll be living and who you'll be living with, it gives you a nice transition between home life and cp life, and it's always helpful to have someone else moving your stuff into the apartment!
If you're worried about him spending too much time away from work, I'd suggest picking a move-in date where he could spend as little time away as possible. Good luck!

My mom moved all my stuff into my apartment when i was checking in and at casting. Its not a big deal for parents to be there.

Lots of kids have parents down there. It's a big help on move-in day. My daughter was 23 at move-in and we all went down to help.

Awesome! Thanks all! I can't wait to have my phone interview and then maybe get accepted~ and then the plane trip is gonna be great, with my daddy~!

I went to help my daughter to check in and I think I was very helpful to her. She needed alot of things that she was not able to bring on the plane and because I rented a car I was able to make multiple trips to Walmart and grocery stores with her to get her settled.

My mom and sister will be going with me. we are actually going down a few days early for a celebratory trip.

So cool~! Depending on what happens, I may not be home for the few days before the trip. I'm working a convention in Los Angeles that goes from the 5th to the 8th of January. I'd leave from LAX with my dad the next day, most likely.

My parents came and drove down with me to Florida for my CP this past Spring Advantage quarter and it was a huge help when it was move in day. About half of our roommates had their parents down with them (there were 6 of us: 3 flew and 3 drove). It was also good when the rest of us were moving in and getting settled, the parents were able to make some food runs for us and also helped us go and purchase cleaning supplies and groceries that we needed to start us off. So I must say its not silly at all coming from a former CP who just finished her program. My parents also flew down to help me move out as well (dad flew home early and mom and I drove back together). It was a bunch of fun cause we had a mini family vacation and then my mom and I had a mommy and me vacation (the family and I stayed at POP for a few days and then when dad left mom and I checked into Wilderness Lodge for the last day or so before we left for home). I LOVED having my parents there. take lots of pictures!!!
