I'm trying to get a better feel for this feature. Hypothetical question:

My wife rides a ride with 2 of my kids while I wait with 1. I get a parent swap pass(I'm not sure what they look like), when I go to ride can my 2 kids that rode before ride with me while my wife waits with the one?

Question 2: does the whole party have to wait in line to get the parent swap, or can I get the pass at the begginning of the line?

1. Yes.
2. A child too short to ride cannot even enter the ride line.
Swap is obtained outside the ride line.

Yup, that was our experience too. Three people can go back, even if it is the exact same three.

They look at/measure the too short one at the entrance to the line.

Just make sure you all go up to get the rider swap ticket, including the kid that can't ride. They usually want to see the other child.

I think the tickets say good for up to 3 guests. Also, when we were there in april, they expired at the end of the month. We didn't have to use it immediately or even that same day. We always did, but I thought it was nice to have that option, especially if the 3rd child is throwing a fit since they are unable to ride! You have the option to go back later that day or even another day.

Are rider swaps only good for parents with children that don't meet the height requirements, or can you get a pass if you have a child that is afraid to ride?

We were told it was ONLY if too short to ride and we have never tested it. Our 2 oldest view rider swaps as the "good old fps of yesterday". They essentially act as a fp since they don't expire until the end of the month. We often collect them in the morning when using our scheduled FP+ to ride and then use them when we return to the park later in the week (with 2 younger ones with grandparents at hotel) and they get to ride again.

From what I understand, the rider swap is only for families with children who are unable to ride due to height requirement.

If someone has had a different experience, please let me know!

Thanks for your replies. I am going to post this as a new question, and maybe we will get our answers with more experiences shared :) Sorry to original poster if I've hijacked your thread :)

This was our experience as well. Almost all CMs wanted to see the non-rider and would only hand the swap to the adult staying behind. A few rides give the rider a lanyard that they turn in for a paper swap pass further down the line. The exception to seeing the non-rider, when we were at HS one evening, it was pretty slow, and the CM handed me a swap even though DH and the baby were not there.

We have done it a very few times, but it just isn't a issue very often for us. If you read the official website, they are quite clear as to what the conditions are for getting the pass. My grandson was not measured nor did they ask us any questions. It could well be they assumed he wasn't tall enough or the CM just didn't care. It never occurred to us at the time that it could be an issue as we were going strictly by Disney's stated policy. We expected them to follow it and they did. It was only after I read about it here that I found out it might be a problem. But here's what Disney says on their website:

...children who do not ride—either because they do not meet the height requirement or simply do not wish to ride.

Another site that explains it says this:

...if you have a timid child who doesn't want to ride, even if they're technically tall enough to ride, you should be allowed to get a Swap. Many CMs don't realize this, and this is definitely a situation where your experience is going to vary when requesting the Swap...

Other sites will tell you it's not possible or that it's completely up to the cm working the entrance. As for us, we didn't have a problem and we fully intend to request a switch pass for TOT on our upcoming trip. My 3 yr old grandson is technically tall enough to ride TOT, we think he has no business doing so. We will ask for a rider switch pass and I fully expect we'll get it. YMMV

Thanks again! This information has been very useful to me, and I hope to the OP as well.

Has anyone here had a rider switch turned down for a child who was simply to scared to ride? The official Disney description on their site indicates that this shouldn't be a problem. Our DS6 has sensory issues, so rides like Dinosaur would be traumatizing to him, but the rest of the family would love to experience it.
