I hope this discourages people from owning dangerous pets, or at least being more vigilant with them.

The situation is very sad, but it's abominable that they had nothing remotely close to a proper enclosure for the snake. Snakes can escape even from well-built enclosures, but when you stick one in a fish tank and throw a quilt over it, sorry, but that's a worthless attempt at containment. The adults are totally responsible for what happened.

As horrible as the situation is and how bad I feel for these parents, I think this needed to happen to them (the punishment). The first warning in May wasn't enough and they made the worst choice imaginable... soooo sad

Ummm...19 year old mother of a two year old. Already pregnant again. 32 year old boyfriend, in jail for drugs. Sounds like the DA is on the right path. They are a danger to their new baby if left to their own devices!

The article states that the snake had already escaped once earlier in the day. Who would think this was an appropriate pet for a family with a 2 year old and a baby on the way?

even my hermit crabs (not likely to escape) have a wire top on the cage. it cost 10.00 at petsmart, there is no reason those people could not have bought one.
