My mother and I did not have the same ideas when it came to my wedding. She was going ahead with ballroom reception with lobster tails for 300--all at $200 a head! That is absolutely fine for some people, but it just isn't me. My father got so sick of it all he put his foot down (Mom couldn't believe it--he never did that with her before!), and said we could have the big wedding or the cash equivalent to use as a down payment on a house with a small intimate ceremony. Dh and I chose the cash, and within three months of our marriage were building the house we still live in today. It was the right decision for us. I feel sorry for you all, and especially the wedding couple. Bride's mom is way too controling, and I agree--how will she try to inappropriately insert herself into their married life? I'm glad the bride's taking a little more control, and hope she keeps up with it during her marriage. Bride's mom will have to realize that this is not a prom date--it's a marriage.
