AAAhhhhhhhhhh, I have just heard that chickenpox is doing the rounds and my 2 havent had it yet :scared1: I know I should listen to hubby and not worry about something that hasnt happened yet but the thought of our christmas trip not happening makes me want to cry!

Please keep your fingers and everything else crossed that the pox doesnt come here! :worship:

oh god... what timing... and its sooo catching! I will be honest though... my son has had chicken pox 3 times!! yes three!! each time worst then the last. My doctor said to me... chicken pox is so contagious that it can be "catching" before its even on skin... and even up to 4 weeks after its off skin! so... i have to say... plonk them in tons of calomine lotion everyday...a nd take them anyway.. come what may... that was my doctors advice to me! Dont worry.. some have it really mildly!

My DD hasnt had chicken pox yet.... I think i would cry if she caught it before
DLRP.

Fingers crossed your 2 are safe and dont catch it.

Omg for 2 DLP years on the trot this happened to me I was sick I'm telling you!! I swear I was terrified they were going to catch it!!:scared1: They got it a few days before we were going on another holiday (in scotland) so I was so chuffed in a weird way!:rotfl: and we still went!:scared:

oh I feel your pain 100% I truelly do!:sad1:

Thing is if they did get it before I was sure I would be able to hide it some how but no chance, they were covered head to toe!

once they scab over you are ok.

I am in the same position.

My DD hasn't had it yet and it is doing the rounds in her class. I am praying that if she has to get it, she gets it now and not around the time we go.

I was in the doctors last week and there were 5 children in, all with really bad pox. Poor little things :goodvibes

OMG I so empathise with you - my DS hasn't had it yet and today when we got on the bus to town, there was a little girl of about 1 sat in her buggy next to DS and she was covered in spots on her face - without being rude I couldn't work out if she as blotchy with eczema or whether they were the pox - I'm now worried that DS will come out with them - I soooo hope not as we go next Tuesday

My two youngest haven't had it either and I am panicking that they will get it the day before we go. I am trying to find a pox party to take them to. If anyone's child has it, I'm going to invite myself round. I read somewhere that an anti-histamine like Clarytin can minimise the effects too.

My friend's daughter had it before she went on holiday and she took her all the same. I think the itching and illness bit is quite short-lived.

I will keep my fingers crossed that all the Dis-babies get it at a non-Disney time!!

this worries me every time we are planning to do anything important!! When we went to disney in feb, a sickeness bug was going around my son's class, so i took him off school on the fri even tho we didn't go til the monday!! Thought that would give hime time to be ill and get over it!!!He thought it was great!:rotfl2: Did feel a bit bad tho as not such a good example to teach him!!!!

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL !!! :scared1: I have been like that for the past month. There has been chicken pox at the pre school where I teach English and out of 70 kids, 30 were OUT !!!! My daughters aged 8 and 6 have never had it, but 4 years ago, just before we had to fly to Venezuela to visit my parents there was chicken pox at the same pre school I called my pediatrician in Caracas and he advised me of the vaccine that there is. So I called my own Pediatrician here in Italy and he explained that if the vaccine is given within 48 hours of being in contact with the person that has chicken pox, it should help avoid it or if ti came it would be very mild. Remember that chicken pox takes 15 days to come out...so if your child was in contact with someone who has it, you should calculate about 15 days or so. That is what I have been doing. 15 days ago, my newphew got it, and my girls were with him, but they had gotten the second vaccine ( 4 yrs ago it was only one) and now you must give 2 ...3 months in after. Up to now my girls are fine...I keep my fingers corres...since we leave to WDW on the 13th of Dec. !!!

My best suggestion is to call you pediatrician and ask him or her, what he reccomends ! Careful that doing a Chicken pox party is not 100 % sure they will get it. A friend at the pre school did it ...and her daughter is perfect...and it has been over a month !

Why don't you google chicken pox and read some info...maybe it will clear things up and you will feel a bit calmer !

Keeping my fingers crossed for you ! :wizard:

Oh no, fingers crossed your lo doesn't catch the dreaded pox, baths with bicard of soda in are fantastic! Lottie went in the bath about three times a day when she had it and just sat in there playing for a while.

Thanks everyone, I cant believe how many have been in the same position or are now currently on spot watch! :scared1:
Anyway, so far so good here at the moment! Fingers crossed for everyone else too :wizard:
I must try and do a pre trippie especially as I collected my info from the travel agents today, yay! :cool1:

Fingers crossed for you.
Where I live immunisation against chicken pox is compulsory. It's given in two doses. It's said to be very effective and those kids who still come down with it get it very very mildly. In Greece they seem to follow the American immunisation programme. I don't know how it works in the U.K can you opt to have the jab privately if you are so worried? After all ,although a common childhood illness in a very very few children chickenpox can have some very nasty complications so you know you don't have to worry what if my child is that "one in a thousand" (or whatever the stastistic is) and the jab protects against shingles in adulthood which I'm told is rather nasty.

I've had it twice too!

Boo-Boo, I hope your two dodge it this time!

My kids had the vaccine too, but it was only one shot each because they were both over 3 years old when we did it. They had to do it when we lived in the US for school.

I didn't know there was a vaccine. Is it available in this country? Considering the damage that can be done to unborn babies and the pain of Shingles, you would think it should be! I'm going to google it now...

I know everyone has it in the USA - my kids got Chickenpox when we were in Florida :scared1: so I feel your pain waiting for the spots :confused3

Boo-Boo, fingers crossed for you. :wizard:

I remember when my three DDs caught chicken pox. I worked out it came from another child at Sunday School who they all had equal amount of contact with on the same day but did they all get it at the same time? :confused3 Oh no, one at a time so I had six weeks of playing nurse! :lmao:

I have done a bit of research and although the vaccine is licensed in the UK, it isn't given to under 13's unless their immune system is compromised through illness. Apparently widespread vaccinations would lead to increases in cases of shingles because exposure to chicken pox actually strengthens your resistance to it. Well, that was my understanding of it, anyway! I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

My daughter has started with Croup overnight. I just keep thinking that at least it is now and not in a month's time.
