DD11 seems to need a new/stronger prescription for glasses/contacts every 6 months or so. Last visit, the dr. mentioned Paragon CRT as a possibility. The idea of not having to wear contacts or glasses during the day was nice, but the real appeal was that he said it tended to slow down the rate of deterioration of eyesight. I know her eyesight will get worse over time, but slowing down that pace would be great.

It's $1500 all inclusive for one year. Forget insurance paying for it, except for perhaps a little bit for the contacts.

Have any of you used it? Used it for your kids? Please let me know what you did/did not like about it. I'd appreciate any info.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I've not heard of those. How do they work? My 11 yo has her yearly in a couple weeks. We've promised her contacts.

When I was young (in the 70's), my eyes keep changing. I got contacts at 14 (uncommon for that time) so slow down my changes. They did help.

My DS17 has been in similar contacts for about 5 years. A doc in our area was doing a "study" for a company (Bausch maybe?) so they are not the exact same contact lens but the same idea. They were a little hard to get used to at first (I remember wearing hard contacts in high school) but the results have been nothing but wonderful.

He plays sports so not having to wear daily contacts has been great for him. Since they have been tracking his progress they have noted that his eyesight has not gotten worse as it had previously. I do think that would happen with wearing gas permeable lenses during the day or at night...either way they are better for the eye.

His eyesight has been 20/15 for a while. The docs have been very happy with his progress.

Great thing for him was being in the study if he broke a lens they had a spare in his file at the office. I think it would normally take about a week to get a new lens in if they did not have one to fall back on.

They are also "prescription" so if he had to wear them for some reason during the day or evening he could.

Simplified explanation:

You wear the contacts while you sleep and they temporarily change the shape of your eye (cornea?) so that you can go during the day without contacts or glasses. The "temporary" hold can last from 1-3 days. The benefit....No worries about losing contacts or breaking glasses. Also, it seems to slow down how fast the eyesight deteriorates. DD's prescription changes every 6 months or so and I'd love to slow it down.

I'd love to hear from some people who have used it.
