New to Disneyland. FIRST trip! Been to WDW a few times. I am trying to make our family itinerary. How long should I allow to walk back/forth between Paradise Pier and parks? Im scheduling a swim break every afternoon of our 5 day trip. If we have 6:00 dinner reservations at park should we leave hotel at 5 or earlier?

OK, since you are new to DLR then be aware your question is confusing. DLR has a Paradise Pier Hotel aka PPH. It also has an entire "land" at DCA called Paradise Pier.

I assume you are talking about the hotel here and not the land at DCA?

If the hotel, most would tell you it is faster to cut thru the GCH. Your walk to the DCA special entrance thru the GCH will be 5-10 minutes. To the DL gate more like 10 minutes. You can also use the monorail in DTD to get to DL. The walk to the monorail will be about 5 minutes.

If you cut through the Grand Californian, it's about half of a mile (9 football fields or so) from the DL ticket gates to the Paradise Pier Lobby.

Yes, it's hotel. I am sorry my question was confusing. :( It's our first trip to Disneyland so pardon my ignorance. I apologize and thank you for your response.

Seems like the biggest problem WDW vets have is realizing that the DLR is compact. As the crow flies it is approx. 2/3 of a mile from the PPH to IASW. Pretty much the farthest distance you could go.

And this is why I'm a convert. Everything so close and you don't have to plan things 80 billion days out.
:)

You can also use the monorail in DTD to get to DL. The walk to the monorail will be about 5 minutes.

Depending on crowd levels, you might have to wait for the monorail as you can't always get on the first train that comes by. And, it just drops/off picks up near Autotopia...so that location might not always be convenient.

Also, it's worth noting that you need to have a valid ticket to ride the monorail because the station is inside Disneyland (Tomorrowland). So if you're already going to DL or have been to DL, you can use it, but if you're going to DCA or have already entered DCA that day, you'll need a park hopper ticket. Just something to keep in mind.

We're WDW regulars, too! We just stayed at PPH in November and it was good. Not at all as good as moderate at WDW, but it's still Disney.

The walk is about 10 minutes to the Grand Californian gate into California Adventure. Be mindful that if you show up 30 minutes before the gates officially open so that you can get to the rope drop spot first, there'll be a lot of other people there with you. If you hit the gate 15 minutes before rope drop, you should get in with not much line.

To DL, there's a little bit more of a walk. 10-15 minutes depending on your walk speed.

One more thing. Hook'em! (Grew up in Austin ;))

We've made it from PPH to BTRBBQ in 20 minutes. But from PPH to the DCA, probably 7 minutes, to DLH, 10 minutes.
