Paradise and Magic..All Rolled into One Vacation! UD3/28 A Top 10 Wrap Up

Missy

the trip looks ans sounds amazing thus far....I was retelling your arrival story many times over while we were in Atlanta and you'll understnad why when I do my mini OT report shortly in my PTR...

I would have been right there w/ you screaming if a fish was swimming and touching me.... yes I'm a little scardy girl.

can't wait for more popcorn::

H,i GREAT report!! I LOVE hearing about the cruise with just you and DH. We also have 3 children (a DD and 2 DS's) they are older but the only time we cruised was a whole family trip. I am thinking of doing a 4 day in Feb.2011. We just have one left at home and he will be 17 and a junior in HS. So even though we would bring him on the trip,I doubt he would be hanging out with us!! And as you did,I would definitely have to add on a few days at WDW!!;) Joan

Hi and Welcome! The 4 day was perfect for our first cruise...just enough to get a taste, but still leave us wanting more! What? Your 17 year old doesn't want to hang out with you?? I can't imagine! :rolleyes1 LOL!

Oh boy....can't wait to hear your Atlanta story!

I'm a scaredy girl too....at least we aren't denying it! ;)

We LOVE camping...but it's not for everyone! Did you camp as a kid with your family?
No, I have been camping maybe twice and it was in a pop up (maybe around the age of 8). Dayne just bought a tent two weeks ago so we were talking last night about maybe taking it and trying it one night. I think Ashton would have a blast...we'll see --still don't know what I think about it...afraid of the wildlife to be in a tent
 Connie

We are currently enjoying a stroll around CoCo Cay and just enjoying the beautiful scenery! Jeff and I spent most of our day on Snorkel Beach, but we wanted to see the rest of the island. There were several beaches, a few areas set up for beach volleyball, a large inflatable slide for kids, a small “market” area, a spa where you could get massages, a few bar areas, and several picnic areas set up for the barbecue. I'll let the photos do most of the talking here....

Oh look.....coconuts!
BahamasCruiseandDisney84.jpg

Once we had made it around most of the island we decided it was time to refuel from all that snorkeling....so we hit the barbecue! Just as on the ship, all the food was included. The only items that cost extra were sodas or alcohol. They had ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, several types of salads, fruit, french fries, burgers, hot dogs, and several types of desserts. YUM!!

Enjoying my barbecue!
BahamasCruiseandDisney85.jpg

With full bellies, we grabbed an iced tea and a lemonade “to go” and headed over to check out the little market. We knew we would be doing most of our souvenir shopping in Nassau the next day, but we wanted to take a look anyway.

BahamasCruiseandDisney87-1.jpg

There were little hammocks scattered around in the shade of the trees. Since it was about 2:00, a lot of passengers had already left the island to go back to the ship. The last tender was scheduled to leave at 4:30.....Jeff and I had no intention of leaving until we HAD to! This WAS paradise after all! The hammocks were mostly abandoned so we tried them out!
BahamasCruiseandDisney88-1.jpg

We could really get used to this!

With only a couple of hours left on CoCo Cay, we wanted to get some more snorkeling in. This time I took the underwater camera and tried to get some shots. I am going to scan and post them, but the colors of the fish and the coral reef just do not translate at all. Silly disposable cameras!

This was part of the sunken ship...the fish loved this area!

These are the “demon” fish that kept touching me!
scan0012.jpg

Jeff....I kept trying to get a pic of him underwater, but none of them turned out. We get so spoiled with digital cameras being able to see the shot as soon as we take it!
scan0011.jpg

He managed to get a good one of me. This picture just makes me giggle!

A couple views from our perspective!

scan0008-1.jpg

This is the coolest thing we saw....it's a Caribbean Spiny Lobster hiding inside a sunken cannon. Jeff kept trying to entice him out....much to my dismay. :scared1: But, lucky for me, he was happy right where he was!

We found this poster at the zoo in Nassau the next day and I took a picture of it so we could show the boys what we had seen.

We probably stayed in the water snorkeling for about an hour. We had such a blast! I never got seasick and you can see from the pics that the water was a little choppy. This was such a cool experience to share together and I'm so glad we did it!

Just a few more minutes to soak in the view of the gorgeous beach. We decided that we could wake up here every day for a very long time before we got tired of the view!

Green Cat agrees!

Sadly, at about 4:00, we made our way back to the tender to get in line with the rest of the stragglers to head back to the ship. :sad1: Security is very tight and any time you get back on the ship, bags are x-rayed and you go through a metal detector just like at the airport. They were confiscating any shells that anyone may have had that were NOT purchased in a shop. Interesting! No piece of the Bahamas for you, mon!

Next up....back on the Monarch of the Seas and it's time to get all dressed up!

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing I love it all! I really can't pick one above the other...although the hammock you were relaxing in looks mighty inviting!

Hey Missy! I'm back and all caught up. I don't blame you one little bit for wanting to stay in paradise up to the very last minute. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous and I am sure they don't do it justice.

We have a hammock in our backyard, but somehow it just doesn't cut it!

Welcome home Lisa! I can relive it a little looking at the pictures, but the real thing was so much better! ::yes::

Looks like you guys had such a great day at the island. Wow. How relaxing and enjoyable for you both.

Wow! What a wonderful day you had!!:goodvibes Those pictures around CoCo Cay are just beautiful!!:cloud9:

I'm glad you had so much fun snorkeling.....even with the "demon" fish touching you.:rotfl: Oh and very cool underwater pics!!:thumbsup2

I can definitely understand why you didn't want to leave!!;)

Beautiful pictures from your cruise. Coco cay looks amazing. The snorkeling looks like so much. I love your underwater picture! Your DH did a good job. The food sounds really good, too. What a perfectly awesome vacation you are having!

We really did have a very relaxing day. It had been a very long time since we had a whole day to do nothing but enjoy each other's company! It was awesome! :thumbsup2

Thanks Angie! Unfortunately all good things come to an end and eventually we had to get back on the ship....I could have spent at least another day there just enjoying the sun and the view! :)

Snorkeling was a blast! Despite my deep "no love for the fish" issue!

Seeing all those fish in the water and knowing you were swimming around with them just totally made me chuckle, Missy!

Demon fish... :rotfl2:

Have you ever seen the movie about the divers that were left by their boat...Open Water, I think is what it was called? Your wave pictures made me think of that movie since almost the entire movie was filmed at eye level of the ocean! Creepy! :scared1: (Don't ask why I watched it...I don't know why...)

Anyways....the beach looks heavenly and you both look so relaxed and happy! Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

Oh yes...saw that movie! Don't think it didn't cross my mind! But luckily I could swim to shore......if the demon fish got too out of control!

Sounds like a wonderfully relaxing day spent in the hammocks and snorkeling! Love the underwater pics!!

Great day on Coco Cay! :thumbsup2 It looks beautiful.

I'm impressed that you went out of your comfort zone and snorkeled... and for so long! And with little fish touching you! :scared1: That would have been enough for me to call it a day. ;)

Can't wait to hear about your shopping day! popcorn::

Hi Amy! I really enjoyed the snorkeling. Aside from the icky fish touching me, that is! It was a fun experience for Jeff and I to share. :thumbsup2

Sadly we said good-bye to the beauty of CoCo Cay and boarded the tender to head back to the Monarch of the Seas. :sail: It had been a fabulous day! :thumbsup2 Snorkeling was incredible, the weather was perfect, the scenery was beyond description....we could not have asked for a better day.

But...the day wasn't over yet! It was “formal night” on the ship and I was so looking forward to getting all dressed up for dinner. We had really enjoyed our first dinner on the ship and meeting our tablemates, and we were looking forward to another enjoyable meal and good company.

The tender ride was very nice..the breeze felt good on our slightly sunburned skin! Here are a few pictures as we head back to the ship.

Once we got through security check, we headed to our stateroom to get freshened up and to drop off our backpack. It was only 5:00 and we had a late dinner seating at 8:30 so we had some time to kill before getting ready for dinner. While in our room, we decided that Green Cat was really a third wheel. This is where he stayed for the rest of the trip!

BahamasCruiseandDisney99.jpg

After ditching our gear and changing out of our swimsuits, we headed up to the pool deck to try to find a snack. There was a soft serve ice cream machine calling my name! ;) Jeff and I got our ice cream and made our way out to the deck to find a couple of chairs and a good view. It was nice to just sit, relax, and enjoy the sun and water!

Jeff's vacation feet this time!

The sun on the water was breathtaking.

After enjoying our ice cream and the view, we took a walk around the ship. We walked every day and we constantly found places we hadn't seen before! Our favorite place to walk was the promenade deck, deck 7. We walked that deck at least once each day.

Since it was formal night and we wanted to get all dressed up for the evening, we finally made our way to the room to get showered and ready for dinner. Our stateroom was on Deck 3 and there were two ways to get there from the deck 3 main area where the elevators and stairs were. I took to using what I called my “secret passageway” most of the time, but Jeff often took the main hallway. It became a game to see who would get to the room first, with both of us taking off at a run from the stairs. We're such kids! :rotfl:

Once I beat Jeff to the room as usual, we took turns showering. When I say the bathroom was tiny, I mean it! You could literally sit on the toilet and reach the sink to brush your teeth, or be in the shower and reach things you forgot on the counter! ::yes::

Although we had used sunscreen liberally while on CoCo Cay, I don't think either one of us realized how strong the sun was or how sunburned we had become! The worst was the backs of our legs....while snorkeling that is the part of your body getting the most sun and we just didn't sunscreen enough! So.....we were a little pink and a little sore, but it was well worth it!

Once we were all dressed, we wanted to head to dinner a little early to get our pictures taken. I knew we wouldn't purchase a lot of the pictures they take onboard (and they take a TON!), but I wanted to get the formal pictures done. It's not often that Jeff and I get a nice picture of the two of us and I knew that if they suckered me into buying any of the pictures, it would be these ones. And.....I was right! I only purchased one, but here it is!

scan0005.jpg

Can you see how pink and sunburned we are??

Once again, I apologize, but I can't remember exactly what we ate for dinner. I know that we tried a variety of fruit soups, and I think it was a pear soup this evening. Jeff loved that! I'm pretty sure I had a steak and Jeff had fish of some sort. I know that we had several different desserts, one being a delicious coconut cake. Our Travel Agent had noted that we were celebrating Jeff's birthday (even though his birthday was May 10, the day after we got home) so his cake came out with a birthday candle! We were also celebrating our table friends' 25th anniversary so there was a lot of celebrating at our table! :woohoo:

While at dinner we all talked about what was on the agenda for the evening. Every night, our friend J ( one of the sisters from Atlanta and a seasoned cruiser) would pull the Cruise Compass (schedule of events for the day) out of her bra! LOL! It was just too funny! Here we sit at a beautiful table, all dressed up and trying to act like we have some class and J pulls stuff out of her bra! :lmao: We got a kick out of her! We all decided that we would head to the Bolero bar after dinner to watch the “Battle of the Sexes” game then we would go to the main theater to see the production show for the evening. Having gone to bed early the night before, Jeff and I were excited to check out the ship's nightlife!

We also discussed our plans for our Nassau day the following day. Since J and K and Jeff and I were both planning to go to the zoo and botanical gardens we decided to meet up before we disembarked and we would share a cab. One of my favorite things about cruising was the people we met.

Our dinner began at 8:30 each night, so it was close to 10 before we finished. We headed straight to the Bolero and found the place PACKED! :crowded: We ended up sitting at the bar and enjoying a drink while watching the Battle of the Sexes game. The game was funny...your typical guys vs girls stuff. The cruise director's staff was energetic and really made the game fun for spectators as well as those participating.

After the girls proved their superiority, Jeff and I began to make our way to the Sound of Music Theater to see the production show of the evening. It was called “ Signed Sealed Delivered” and was a musical medley of Jazz, Blues and Rock. I love music and dancing, so I really enjoyed the show. I thought the singers and dancers were talented and it was well done. :thumbsup2

By the time the show ended, it was nearly midnight and time to turn in. After one last stroll around the promenade deck, it was off to our stateroom. This is what greeted us when we walked in...

BahamasCruiseandDisney103.jpg

It was going to be a fairly early morning as we were planning to meet J and K at 9:00 to head into Nassau. Jeff and I had a full day of touring planned and I was so looking forward to exploring a new place.

Up next.....welcome to Nassau! :woohoo:

Great update Missy!:thumbsup2 You got some really beautiful pictures heading back to the ship.

The picture of the two of you turned out so good!! Ahh... You both look very happy to be there!:cloud9:

Your evening sounds like it was a lot of fun...first dinner and then entertainment! What a great night!!!

Oh and I love the towel creation!! How cute is that!!:goodvibes

Looking forward to hearing all about your day at Nassau!!popcorn::

Just finished reading about your fabulous day snorkling and hammocking, and the fun evening you shared afterward! I am jealous of everything, except your sunburn!

Great towel monkey... at least Green Cat had somebody to keep her company in the stateroom!

Looking forward to more!
