Are they outdated? Ugly? Lame?

I've always wanted one. Now we have a sitting room with a great sunny window, and I plan on doing a subtle "tropical" theme in that room.

Anyone have one? Would anyone still get one?

Honestly...that screams 1970s to me. It does look very outdated.

But hey, style is a matter of personal taste. If you like it and it fits with your decor, go for it.

For me personally, no way. I don't like the bamboo-look base or the style of the chair.

Okay, I think it might work with a tropical theme. It is a little retro, but those things are SO comfy!

I'm sort of right there with you on the 1970's thing. :rotfl: I just needed to hear someone else say it. And it's like, $300!

Thanks for the confirmation! :thumbsup2

To me they are outdated, but that's because I remember them from the first go 'round. But I do know they are UNcomfortable.

Reminds me of college. Very comfy and loved curling up in mine with a book!

:lmao: DH convinced my to buy one last year for our game room. Everyone made fun of us calling it retro, dated, etc..... that is until they sat in it. :cloud9:

It is now the coveted chair in the game room and I love it! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I am still on the fence!

They may be outdated, but they are soooo comfy!!!:cloud9:

If you get one, get a beige cushion. It won't look quite as outdated and would go better w/ a tropical theme. JMO

They are comfy-would make a good tropical theme-who cares if they are outdated, all that 70s crap seems to be back in style anyway...and don't get a wicker one if you have kids-ours ruined it! :goodvibes

I have always loved papasan chairs -- so comfy! I did learn the hard way, however, to NOT sit in one when you're 9 months pregnant with 10lbs of baby. LOL I thought they were going to have to call in some sort of industrial crane to get me out of the thing.

we had one until about 2 years ago when it broke that we got from Pier 1(but we only paid $150..man they are charging $300 for those these days??? I definitely wouldn't pay that)
But I did love ours...it was SOO comfy and great to curl up in and read. I miss it. Personally I like that it is so retro, we had one growing up and I loved it too.

We had a double one from Pier 1 back about 20 years ago when we first got married (all of our furniture was hand-me-downs or bought on clearance, lol). We loved it, but found after a time that as the cushion got used, it sort of flattened out, and by the end of its life (3 or so years later), it had expanded to the point that it was hanging out of the "frame" on all sides!

I had one in the 80's and paid about $50, it was ok, but kinda uncomfortable to sit in for long. The base poked through and after awhile it felt like you were sitting on bamboo...

I'm glad someone else said the word UNcomfortable. I had a roommate with one and felt it wasn't comfortable. The only time it was at all comfy was alone with a book, otherwise it was just awkward. We had a weekly meeting at our apartment and NO ONE wanted to sit in it after their first time. I would have chosen it over curling up on the floor to read, but found my bed or the couch more comfy.

My 14 yr old wants one and I've been trying to talk him out of it.

I got a papasan for decoration purposes at Garden City a few months back. It was like 100.00 with the foot stool and foot stool cushion.

Try sitting in one first before you buy it. If it's comfortable, get it!:thumbsup2 Don't worry about it being 70s style...the retro look is :thumbsup2

Growing up we had a couple of these - and I loved them!! So comfy to curl up in with a blanket to watch a movie. popcorn::

Honestly, if I had the space or the need, I would have one in a second. :thumbsup2

My brother and sil have one of those in their den. Every time I sit in it I fall asleep. Yes, they are comfortable.
