Panoramic Oceanview Room on Explorer of the Seas worth it?

Hi RCI,

So I decided to try out a Royal Caribbean Alaska cruise as the DCL Alaska was unfortunately too $$$. (7 nighter by the way) The question I have is do you think it's worth paying an additional $2,000 for a Panoramic Ocean View room (Desk 12) compared to my initial inside guarantee room? I have no clue where the inside room would be, but I know that the Pano Ocean View room would be on deck 12. Another option I had was to pay an additional $1100 for an oceanview room on Desk 2.

I never been on another cruise line aside from Disney, so i'm not sure what to expect.

I still have until the end of the day to go back to my inside room (the 30% deal ends today haha). There are a total of 4 of us. (2 adults and 2 kids)

Your help is much appreciated.

Also, are there any pictures of these Panoramic Ocean view rooms for the Explorer of the Seas? RCI is making it seem like that whole Deck 12 of rooms are brand new.

We had Freedom's 1864 for a Caribbean cruise and it was amazing.

I would say it's definitely worth it. If the cost is too much, you certainly can do an inside room and just visit the open decks for sightseeing.

I just went ahead and paid the extra $2,000. The original room I booked was an inside guarantee room. I was worried about the size of the room, and which deck we would be put in. I get motion sickness bad. I was a bit sea sick on the DCL Dream on our veranda room, what more a low deck inside room. haha

I was able to book 1860 which is on deck 12. It definitely looks bigger than an inside room. I know it's not the "family panoramic" or the "Large Panoramic" like what you booked, but at least it has a window. All in all, it was under $6,000 for the Deck 12 room for us 4. I hope i didn't pay too much?!?!?

We had a similar room (though side-facing) on Vision and it was lovely. (there's a thread on cruisecritic from September that shows Explorer's 1860 so I was able to look at it...for those googling, deckplangenius's picture is 100% wrong...they are showing 1864's counterpart!)

I do have to wonder at moving up in decks if you get seasick, though. People say that mid-ship is best and LOWER deck is best. Way up on the top of the ship isn't, they say, a great place to be if you're prone to seasickness. But there are plenty of remedies for motion sickness, and you can look into any of those while preparing for your trip.

As for how much it was...if you're cool with it, it's cool. I bet a room on Disney would be far more, and they don't have anything like the pano rooms, now do they?

So worth it. We had one on the Freedom of the Seas and loved it!

Ahh... so we looked over our budget, and because of the Alaska excursion costs $$$, we decided to downgrade to a "Large Oceanview Room". So it was about a $1,000 savings from the Pano room. I'm a bit disappointed, but the savings can go towards excursions. Yah, as for motion sickness, I am hoping that Bonine will do the trick. haha.

the large OV rooms are usually near the front, which tends to get a bit moremotion. They usually have a sofabed and no upper pullmans. You might also consider a standard OV with 2 pullmans that is more in the center of the ship that should have less motion, but have a bit less space.

Motion on an Alaska cruise is usually minimal. Any room with a view is worth the cost. The views are amazing.
