Skagway has a few excursions that involve panning for gold but outside of doing an excursion I do not see another opportunity to pan for gold. Not sure if I answered your question
I am trying to figure the same thing out right now for our June Alaska cruise. Skagway and Juneau both have a DCL excursion with Gold Panning. Both seem pretty good based on what I have read. I did gold panning in 2004 in Juneau on a Princess cruise and it was a good time
Have you tried checking tripadvisor.com? I usually don't book excursions through DCL and have used Trip Advisor to find things to do in port, and I've had great luck.
We panned for "gold" during our visit at Liarsville in Skagway 2 yrs ago. The "gold" was the size of glitter and there was very little to be found, not worth it.
