Pangani Trail and Kilimanjaro Safari - same animals?

I'm trying to plan how to go out touring AK, and what attractions we'll have enough time to see. On the AK map, it looks like Pangani Trail and Kilimanjaro Safaris overlap. Is it worth it to do both? Are there different animals for both?
Thank you!!

Absolutely worth it to do both as the animals hardly overlap at all. Specifically the gorillas in the Trail are not visible on the safari, and I can watch them all day!

Hi OP.

from the Pangani you wont see every animal you see on the Safari and likewise all the animals you see on the Pangani you wont see on the Safari, its defninently worth a walk down the trial to see the Gorrillas

plus along the Pangani there are some indoor areas to get out of the heat and sun, it does get a little crowded in some palces, but you get to see Fruit Bats, Naked Mole Rats, Meerkats, Boa, and the Okapi
with the Okapi you get a much closer view of the animal when your on safari as it can somtimes be hidden.

Thank you for the replies. We have an 8:05 Tusker House Breakfast (9AM opening). Should we do Pangani right after breakfast before it gets crowded, then get a fast past for Kilimanjaro?

That would be a great plan, or you could do the safari, then trail.

I prefer the safari later in the day, around 4 or 5 because it seems there's more activity, mainly wth lions. But if you're looking to do the safari earlier, then definitely do the safari after your breakfast. That way you can use the FP for something else, and the trails never get that many people where you feel like you need to get there asap. You can hit the trail any times of the day

I don't think there is any overlap at all between the trail and the safari.

If there is a type of animal on the trail that you can also see on the safari, I'm pretty sure it is not the same ones.

For example, the okapi you might see on the safari is not the same one that you see on the trail.

The overlap beyween the types of animals is pretty minimal.

It is definitely worth doing both. Because you can do the trails at your own pace, and there is never a line to enter, you really don't have to plan to do them.

Most people take the Safari and then do the trail since you can easily access it after the Safari and most people have no idea what the trail is.

While the two areas overlap, no one can tell where the animals will be at any point in the day, You might be on the Safari and not see any hippos but then go on the trail and see them having fun. And you won't see naked mole rats on the Safari. The gorillas are always a mystery on where and when they will be out to see.

Another thing to do is to take the train out to Rafiki's Planet Watch closer to the end of the day. That's when some of the Safari/trail animals are getting the call home and you might see some on the way out to Conservation Station.

the trail never really gets crowded. Also it has a bird area and you can see the hippos underwater (not always depends on where they are hanging out but when you do get to see them it is very cool!)
