Ok I have had a Panera card for years & use it every week (I'm in there every weekend buying coffee & bagels).
I did not get the email
But I am going to check my online Panera account & see if it maybe is there? (here's hoping!)
We don't have a Panera nearby, but I saw that Disneyland DTD now has one. I was thinking about signing up just to see if there's a reward for new customers. I love their food, but only get to eat there a couple times each year. Rumor has it that my town is getting one, but nothing has come yet.
New customers get a free bakery item for signing up. You used to also get a free birthday bakery item but in the last few weeks it has been changed to a free drink. I was told that the rewards you receive are based on what you buy.
I had lunch at Panera today and got my free bagel (for breakfast tomorrow). I received the e-mail so I knew to ask about it. She said I can get a free bagel every day through April.
Not sure why I got it - I used to go weekly but have not been in there so much over the past year. Perhaps to entice me in more; I drive past there every morning so will make use of the free bagel. If it is to get me to spend more they will not be terrible successful.
DH and I go to Panera pretty regularly, and usually order separately as we are both in the rewards program. He did get the free bagel everyday, but I didn't.
My hubs got the free bagel email and he went to get one today. They do charge for cream cheese which costs as much as a bagel. Plus I got a caramel latte so it definitely is a way for them to draw you in to spend additional money.

I cannot find any reason to how the people were picked. Like PP said the majority of people will buy extra food. Infact some did not even take the free bagel
Does seem to be random. Sometime last year they sent me a free coffee every day email, but that did not entice me in. I will probably stop 5-6 times a week for the free bagel and take them home and freeze them. Maybe once a week I will buy something, such as turkey chili for lunch. It's convenient, there are about 5 Panera locations near where I am out running errands during the week.
