Pandora the World of Avatar- My personal rant/thoughts

I haven't seen the whole series, so I can't say that they are not way better. I wanted to be a fan, but I'm just not. I recently watched the one where they had the guy in the trunk and the one teacher with the goofy eye and had to keep drinking the little bottles of whatever. I kept thinking throughout the movie that the special effects were just lazy and tired. The Avatar storyline is as tired as a 1, 4, 5 chord progression, but I found it to be visually stunning. I still make fun of, "unobtainium" at every opportunity I can, so I can fully agree that it is not the best movie ever made in the history of everything, but I still dig it.

Theres a lot of talk about Pandora lately so I thought I would give my few cents worth for anyone that might care to read and respond.
1. We know nothing- I hear a lot of judgements about this new land but one fact remains, we haven't been there. We can say all we want about how it looks now or what we think it will be but the fact is that it still isn't open. How can we be so judgmental about something that isn't even open. It doesn't matter what we see now or what our initial thoughts may seem. We simply can not judge this land or the attractions until we experience them.
2. Don't let the past influence the future- Yes its true this expansion has been a long time coming and Disney probably hasn't opened this as soon as it should have. But we can't act like just because this is 2017 instead of 2015 we don't like it. I would rather this take longer and be spectacular than be built quick and done wrong.
3. Don't let the movie pre-determine your feeling about the experience- I've got a confession, I didn't love the Harry Potter books or movies, but I loved the theme park experiences. I didn't love the movie cars, but I LOVE cars land. Just because you don't like the movie doesn't mean you won't like the land.
4. It won't be better than Wizarding World- One question... so what!? I doubt Pandora beats something like Diagon Alley but thats besides the point. I don't think Space Mountain at WDW is better than Space Mountain at Disneyland but the fact is I still love both attractions. We should be happy there is a new expansion at Animal Kingdom with two completely new attractions. You can still love someplace without thinking its the best. Would you not ever eat at your third or fourth favorite restaurant if it wasn't your number one?
Lets stop worrying about all the comparisons and distractions and simply give this new experience a shot. The people that create these experiences are professionals and know what they are doing. I personally can't wait to experience Pandora and am excited to see something new and exciting. Any thoughts?
So glad you stopped by to share your thoughts on this! I liked Avatar alright, but I'm ridiculously excited to see the new land too! In fact, dare I say that I feel the same way about Star Wars? I'm kind of far from being a fan, but I think Star Wars Land is going to be super cool!

Not sure if you saw, but your thread was chosen to be featured on today's installment of the DIS Daily Fix! :goodvibes

You saw Goblet of Fire which was, hands down, the worst of the HP movies. It's not loved in the HP community. The movie just doesn't make a lick of sense if you have not read that book.

Never saw the movie, never will. That said...
Watching all the previews for it, just watched a video of some projection mapping on the floating mountains....I'm going to have to stop myself from planning almost all our nights there!!! :rotfl: Its going to be AWESOME!!!!

I'm looking forward to Avatar. I think the concept art and what I have seen so far creeping over the tops of construction walls looks very promising. And IMO Joe Rohde is a genius and can do no wrong. Well, if you look beyond Chester and Hester that is :upsidedow.

BUT

I am very disappointed the park didn't go forward with Beastly Kingdom (or whatever it was they were going to call the land dedicated to the dragon in the park logo). I think the possibilities could have been endless with this theme.

I guess theres always the possibility of a "Beastly Kingdom" in the future but for now I won't hold my breath.

Just my .02

Agree completely! I am not sure if Avatar will add anything to the park and in fact feel it may distract from the true meaning of animal kingdom - animals! The current areas make sense - even Dinoland - but Avatar seems a little strange to shove in with them. I could see it maybe in HS or EPCOT even but I don't really see the connections to AK. Beastly Kingdom would have been great and would have brought in some of the fantasy aspect without specifying it to a specific concept like Avatar. Bring back the boat ride that warned us about dragons lol!

I am excited to see something new and I am sure it will be wonderful but I do feel that it will also detract from the AK message in some ways too as does having a nighttime show. Just my opinion though.

Oh and its nothing to do with connections and having random movie rides next to each other its more about not getting the area as a concept in AK. I would have rathered a Nemo area a bit like the living seas with the Nemo show in it personally as this would be another aspect of animal groups etc. Or Beastly Kingdom with its mystical animals would have been good and then have a ride in there for Avatar but a whole land just seems a bit odd. We don't have lion king land for example we have Africa.
