I am *really* fair - they don't make foundation light enough for me, unless you count clown makeup - and everyone's telling me to get an ivory wedding dress. But I think ivory looks like yellow on me and makes me look sallow. At least true white doesn't match my skin!

However, I may have a skewed perception of what it looks like on me, and I don't want to look like a ghost in our wedding pictures.

What do you think?

Sorry about all the wedding dress-related questions lately - I just get such good advice from you all that I want to run everything by you! :goodvibes

I am REALLY fair skinned too and I went with white, in the pictures of me in my dress, it doesn't seem to wash me out, also I'm having a winter wedding in Iowa so hoping for snow and my photographer said it won't make me look like a ghost at all.

I'm faired skinned as well, and I chose an ivory dress...but I think it's a matter of personal taste...which ever dress makes you feel beautiful, and confident should be the one to get. :thumbsup2

Also chose "ivory", howveer there are many shades of ivory. Mine is very subtle....on its own you would think it was white, beside something white you can tell its a bit off white.

i am also fair. i was set on a white dress but when i tried on the dress i ended up getting. i put it on and loved it and when i went to place the order the women said do you want it in white or ivory. i said the one i tried on she said ok yo9u want ivory. i was like what? i had no idea it was ivory. it ends up that it is called soft ivory and is so subtle but it does make a diffrence on your skin. just mke sure to give both a chance

I'm super pale. I tried on both colours and when with the whitest of the white. I think it also depends on your skin tone. The yellows in the ivory completely washed me out. I have pink undertones so the white worked well.

GL :thumbsup2

I'm as white as porcelain - :rotfl: - and I chose white - it makes me look like a Princess (IMO).;)

I'm pretty pale as well and went with ivory. When I tried on the white it looked horrible one me  You will know what looks right on you as soon as you try it on :thumbsup2

I'm extremely pale as well and went with ivory. It is a very light ivory, though. I agree with the poster who said it depends on your skin tone really. I don't have the beautiful porcelain pale skin, I have a more rosey skin tone and the light ivory worked best for me.

I did white and I thought it was fine. Of course, ivory wasn't even a consideration for me because I'm from a small town and people would have talked about me if I hadn't worn white. Try some on and see what looks best with your skintone.

Just remember its whatever you feel comfortable in!!!

i chose a white, but it wasnt a brillant white

i think it also depends on the fabric & hue of the white....id try some on, that will be your best guide

good luck!!:goodvibes

I agree - I chose the white because it looked the best on me, not because I preferred it beforehand - the ivory made me look kind of dirty, if that makes any sense. I love ivory dresses though - and I thought white would wash me out even more than I generally am, but it looked super. Someone said on here that it was what you feel comfortable with, and I agree :)

I'm very fair and went with a light shade of ivory. Remember ivory comes in many shades, try a lot on dresses to see what looks best.

I'm pale as pale can be. My mom kept telling me that I was going to have to go with ivory, but the woman at the dress shop said ivory would look terrible on me, and she was right. I would suggest trying on a dress in each of the different shades and seeing which you look best in. Bring someone you trust to give their opinion if you think yours will be skewed.

I'm also extremely fair-skinned and when I tried on an ivory gown I thought it made me look yellow. I went with white, but there are pink accents on my dress as well. Go with whatever you're comfortable in!

I also went with ivory both because I am very pale and I prefer it to bright white. I really think it depends on the dress though and how you feel. I liked my dress better in ivory because of the color of the beading and also i wanted something that looked a little old-fashioned. (there are pics on my pj)

I agree :thumbsup2 part of my reason for picking ivory is the "antique" old fashioned look of it. :cutie:

Thanks for your ideas, everyone! I think you're right - I need to try on a lot of shades, and then I need to go with the color I like best! (Side note: what is up with the bad lighting in these dress stores? Who has fluorescent lighting at their wedding?)

I agree... I am fair as well but with rosy cheeks. When I tried on the ivories they made me look sallow. I thought Ivory would be the color but white looked best so you really never know. Try some on and take some pics so you can see yourself is my best advice!
