Pal Mickey - Thoughts?

This seems like a cool idea, but $65 is a lot to spend. Has anyone purchased one that can give me a review? Worth it or not?

I read somewhere that Pal Mickey is being discontinued, and that next year there will be no programming updates, and while the jokes and games will work, the park-based info will not. I believe this is because they're going to the Cell phone-based in-park info on the Verizon network starting next year.

I kind of wish I'd gotten one when they first came out, but I wouldn't spend $65 on one now when they're not going to be doing anything cool with them anymore in the parks.

Just found info online that Pal Mickey is discontinued and the parks are only selling the existing supply. Pal Mickey's on ebay are going for upwards of $90.

Even if it wasn't being discontinued, I would still suggest NOT buying it. We had it for 2 trips & it just wasn't worth it. You have to actually be holding him to hear anything- and most times he was stashed in the bottom of the stroller. It was a waste of money for us.

Sadly I second that. I was very excited to get it and even budgetted for it. Unfortunately we rarely brought it as it became one more thing to drag to the parks. DD loves it, so I would never get rid of it...but even at home it is one more stuffed toy.

Somewhere on these boards I read that the replacement is similar to a Nintendo DS type of unit.

We liked ours...but wished it came with some type of ear bud or something. It's too hard to hear. Although it was fun to play the games while in line or waiting for a parade. And he had funny jokes when we'd enter certain parts of the park...etc. Knew what park we were in, things like that.

We got ours at the Character Warehouse (called them to order one) and he was under 20.00.

I've thought of getting one too, but it just seemed way to high a price and I didn't want to lug something else.

Anyone know more about the new thing?
