I never go to either extreme with stuff like this. I dont side with anyone going into a rage because the price of an item went up $10. I also dont side with the naive people who swear that Good Ol' Disney would never, ever raise prices just for profit because gee whiz, it is Disney after all. Disney is a business and they sell goods and services at a price and you can either buy it or not, whether the price stayed the same for a long time or if they changed the price the day that you arrived at the store. Any business is all about maximizing profit. Disney is very expensive. Always has been and always will be and they will always try to take as much money from me as possible. Thats business. It doesnt make them criminals. Its my choice whether to buy it or not. and I will likely always buy it because at the very least I feel they offer an excellent product. My only concern is whether that particular item is worth whatever the price happens to be when I go to buy the item. I still think $60 is worth it to watch my daughters eyes light up because she believes some type of magic is allowing this doll to speak to her. That thought process doesnt change for me just because the time they chose to raise the price happens to be right before I planned to buy it. But at the same time, I can afford it while for others it may represent a huge purchase. I dont know why they happened to raise the price for the doll and I dont really care to know why. They did and thats that. If its not worth it for your particular situation, dont buy it. Its that simple. Theres no big secret plot out there. Its no different than going into one of their gift shops and deciding whether that cool snow globe is woth it to you or too expensive. Its funny. If they would have started out from the beginning charging $60, there would never have been an issue. I guess its all in the perspective that you choose to look at it. Just my 2 cents.

Very well said, xmatt.

My Pal Mickey was a hoot at the parks. Every morning my DH would hold him up on the bus and ask "Who's ready for the first bad joke of the day?" It brought a smile to all of us. The only complaint I had was the way he vibrated.. if I wasn't careful and had him hanging down my back I got goosed!!

Well, that's just fine by me. I got pal Mickey when I went this past summer. I would buy another one even at the higher cost. I do wish however that they would come out with them in different designs.

My DD will have to figure that into her souvenir budget. It may change her mind or I may pitch in the other $10 for her.

It sounds like fun to have one.......but does it talk or anything after you leave the park? Or does it work strictly off the sensors in the parks? If it only works in the parks.....DD may decide on something else.

We got one in May for our 2 year old and she loved it! She enjoyed hearing Mickey talk and thought it was funny when he shook. We (my husband, my mother and I) also got a kick out of him. Sure the jokes are corny, but they are cute. He gave out tidbits of info on various things in the parks as you passed by them, suggested rides to go on if there were little to no lines, tells you where characters will be and when shows/parades will start (which was good for us b/c we often lose track of time and miss shows). My daughter still plays with him at home, she likes to carry him around and listen to his jokes and we'll be bringing him back with us on our next vacation. For us, it was worth the $50 (at the time).

Pal Mickey wasn't a pain for us to carry around. Our daughter carried him most of the time or my husband or I clipped him to our shorts no problem. He is small enough that he fit into the small bag I brought for sippy cups and diapers. I would advise against leaving him in the carriage unattended, I've read some posts where he was stolen out of unattended carriages.

edited to add info

You guys wore me down. No doubt I will be buying two, as originally planned. I read the original post on a bad day--we are recovering from tornado damage in my area.

Oh, I hope you did not get a lot of damage!!!!

My house was lucky. We drove to our favorite restaurant that night and for a six block stretch every tree on one side of the road had been shattered. In the shopping center whole trees were completely uprooted. A car dealership was wrecked, other stores demolished. I was driving to work when it hit and a huge bolt of lighting hit the road right in front of the car ahead of me. Yikes. Not supposed to happen in NJ! We've got enough problems here. Thankfully, no one killed. Utilities are still a mess.

Oh My! Hope all is better soon!!:D

Can anyone tell me how big my pal mickey is AND does anyone have a picture of him...or maybe a pic on eBay? I want to get one to surprise my dd for our Christmas trip. I was actually afraid that at Christmas time they might run out of them before we got one so I hope this actually helps my chance of getting one. I am a sucker for disney stuff and I constantly buy my dd things from the disney store at what I consider an "inflated" price. but like I said, I love disney stuff and so does my dd!!!

Thanks for the info! It's a small increase but I'm glad I know ... :p

Tornadoes can happen anywhere at any time. We lost our house when I was little. All that was left was the kitchen floor and the toilet, even my cat was killed. This was in Worcester, MA.

I am glad you are ok.

I wish that they would not increase the price, but I know for sure we will buy one for my 5 year old dd.

We will probably hide it in our room after the first day and let her think the Mickey left it for her.

Like to make sure that there is always magic!!!

"Effective yesterday, September 22, 2003, Pal Mickey costs a little bit more! The new price to purchase the talking plush tour guide is $56.33 plus tax ($60.00 TOTAL). The rental deposit also increased to $60.00. The daily rental fee remains $8.00 plus tax; the $32 plus tax price for a 4-6 day rental also remains the same."

Wasn't the original price $50?? So it really only went up $6.33...no reason to not to buy IMHO!!

Actually the total purchase price, including tax, was $50 so it does in fact cost $10 more to purchase. I know this well because I was forced to purchase a second PM after the first one was stolen out of our stroller.

That is so terrible, Mike. I think it is just awful that someone would steal a child's toy right out in public. We had someone key our truck in the MGM parking lot and had my credit card duplicated on one trip. Have to watch out for this stuff all the time. Really a shame - hopefully your little one wasn't too upset:(

Thanks Kaitysmom. I told the story in the "A word of warning about Pal Mickey" thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=428697&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 that I started. He was very upset and he blamed himself.

I started that thread to warn people that the CM I spoke with told me a lot of Pal Mickeys were being reported "missing" (and I suspect are reappearing on ebay!!!) so please be careful with yours if you decide to purchase one.

After I read your thread I also puchased a one of those rock climbing key rings and put it through were the clip should be in addition to the water bottle strap. Thanks for that post!!:D
