Hello from Old Key West!
We checked in on Sunday. This morning PAL Mickey went on Sale at the Old Key West store. According to the CM's at the store the doll is only available at OKW today. Tomorrow it will be available at the other resorts.

I was the second person to buy it this morning at 7am. There was a CM present who took a picture of me buying it. They didn't say what they are going to do with the picture. Maybe I will be in the newsletter. ;)

Anyway, we haven't gone to the parks yet with it. We are going to go to EPCOT later, so we will get to try it there first.

Its cute. It tells jokes and has three games in it so you can use it even when you are not in the parks.

Don't know if I will post again until we get home. We are here until Sat.

Have Fun!!
Cindy in OKW. ;)
TTFN!

you lucky, you!
i can't for my next trip so i can play with Pal Mickey.

you have to report back and quote us some of the things that he says. :)

"Gosh, just around the corner, there's a neat pin trading station! You can buy yourself lots of great pins. And while you're at it, you should buy some for your whole family! That'd make Mickey really happy."

I'm back! :) Just flew in tonight.
Mickey isn't that big. He's a bit over a foot tall. He has a bit of weight to him, because under his head and upper body are solid plastic balls, that house his electronics. He has plush exterior, but he isn't squishy because of the electronics.

He says all kinds of things, but mostly corny jokes.
"Why did Goofy wear two pairs of pants to play golf? Because he thought he would get a hole in one! Hee Hee"

"What does Mooglee call his bear friend when he has been out in the cold? Ba lue!"

When you are in the parks and he has information for you, he will vibrate and laugh. You then push his tummy and he will tell you the info.
The info ranges from telling you about where you are, to telling you about upcoming events.

"Over there is Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin, lets go ride it and zap that evil Zurg."

"See those Gondolas over there, people in Italy use them to get around Venice. Did you know Venice is sinking a bit more every year. I hope they figure out how to stop it before we need to use a submarine to see it."

"Some of my friends will be in front of the castle in a half an hour. Maybe we should go see them."

"The parade is starting soon. We should go find a spot now if we want to see it."

It works in all four theme parks.
We did find one small mistake. In Epcot it mentioned the Flamingo's that used to be on the path between Future World and the World Showcase which aren't there anymore.

He was a lot of fun to play with. We will be bringing him back in September.

Good Night!
Cindy back in NY

cindy, thanks for reporting back!

i love the attraction info + event reminders. that sounds so cool.

but, the corny jokes?
wow, wouldn't that get annoying after a while?

btw, is there a way to control his volume? or turn him off for the times when you're watching a show?

it'd be great if there was a way to set some options to personalize your Pal Mickey... for instance, tell him to stop telling so many jokes ;)

He only tells the jokes when you hit his tummy, so you request them or sometimes he will vibrate to tell you one, if it is a joke that goes with where you are standing.

Like at MGM at the entrance, he vibrated and said "Why was the actors hair a mess? Because he couldn't get the part."

He never just talks on his own. Also he is not very loud, when you are in the parks you have to hold Mickey to your ear in order to hear what he is saying. Only if you are in a very quiet place, like your hotel room, can he be clearly heard without putting him to your ear.

He does have an on/off switch. Its on his back. You unzipper his covering to get to it. That is also how you change your batteries.

A nice feature, is that he will repeat the last thing he said if you hit his tummy again with in 15 seconds. This allows one person to listen him, and then you can pass him to the next and they can hear him too. We did this a lot, so everyone could hear what he had to say.

He does turn himself off in shows. I think its a signal they send him.

He also has three games he plays. Two are Simon Says type games, and the third tests your knowledge of which rides are in which parks.

Have Fun!

Pal Mickey is designed to run for 5 days on a single set of batteries (I would imagine this is in response to how quickly the first set of Magical Moments pins "ate" their batteries--so quickly that they actually gave you a duplicate set of batteries in the package!), so the battery comment in the earlier post is somewhat puzzling. Perhaps that particular one is defective and uses too much juice.
I'd be curious to hear if other people are having similar short battery life.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that I have had to change the batteries. Which we haven't had to do yet, and we used it pretty extensibly for 5 days. I was just mentioning about the Zipper and what's under it.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Hi Cindy, sorry! I was responding to a different Pal Mickey thread where someone complained about the battery life.

Hi we are still at OKW and working with Pal Mickey. Enjoying the trivia and are starting to get asked more and more about him while in parks. We are still on our second set of batteries so maybe the set that originally came with it were not that good. The CM in the store when I bought it the first day they went on sale said that the batteries should last 5-7 days and when I said that we were to be in the parks for 8 days he immediately handed me a extra set of batteries as a nice gesture just in case. The extras have been working in 4 parks for about 4 hours each day. Pal Mickey is for sale in alot of the resorts now. I saw the post on the pin, will look tommorrow. The kids enjoy the corny jokes...they repeat them all the time and can't wait to go back and try them on their friends. Pal Mickey is a nice addition to the park experience but sometimes you are holding it to your ear and listening about something you just passed and miss the area sights you are walking through. Disney is so full of small touches that I hate to miss any! But - Pal Mickey has pointed out so many to us that we never noticed or things we saw but were not aware what they meant. Like in Animal Kingdom, the trees with all the scarves and things hanging from them - they are spirit trees - not sure if scaring spirits away or inviting them in, but they represent spirits in some way. Mickey keeps info like this coming to you all day long. We really enjoy him! People will stop next to you can listen in too. AGreat conversation starter!

At the moment Pal Mickey is available just at the resorts. Sales will start in the parks sometime in May, I think.

wouldn't you know it... It was available in my restort (BeachClub) the day before we left!!! UUGH!!!

I was asking every day before that... if it was available...

Well since my next trip is in 2 years... we will wait to purchase one...

Hi to all you Pal Mickey owners, I'm Cindy K's father and if any of you come across any discreptancies with what Pal Mickey is saying, please let us know. We have a contact in the development/marketing group for Pal Mickey and they are very interested in any problems which the users like us experience while touring the parks.

When we purchased ours that first day at OKW we talked to a CM who we later met again at VWL store. The CM gave us their Business Card and email address and asked us to send back a report on it's use.

So if any of you other owners have any feed back please let us know.

Anyone take Pal on Splash Mountain yet?

Actually, the trees in AK are prayer trees. The ribbons represent prayers that people want granted. When one is granted, the person returns and places a bell on the ribbon.
