Hey folks,

A few years ago I visited DL with my wife in March, WoC was dark and so were many of the rides but it didn't matter, we'd made it to DL.

November 15th is my Birthday and I've managed to wangle a trip to DL (on the back of a work conference).

With the recent D23 announcement that PTN will be going to DCA next year.. what are the odds of seeing PTN this Christmas? I LOVE the parade from what I've seen on youtube videos and would love to see it in person.

fingers crossed.

If it's like last year, you won't know until very last minute. 11/15 is within the time frame of the expected Holiday Time dates. But last year it didn't start until about a week after the start of Holiday Time. But hopefully they have had ample time to get it ready this time (much shorter time frame for refurbishment last year).

Thanks I had a feeling that was the answer.. there is a DVC event on that date as well so I dont know if that helps or hinders

I know right?! Last minute is RIGHT! One thing I've come to learn with Disney, is once you think you have their stuff all figured out, they surprise you! I remember them mentioning it would be back for the holidays, I booked my trip over the first weekend of the holiday season - but alas! Something with the marathon I believe was the issue.

Last year, like PP mentioned, they began running PTN on weekends starting during their holiday time (except the first weekend!! :guilty:). It was then run daily I believe during their other peak times, the whole week of thanksgiving and the two weeks of Christmas and New Years. Why they couldn't have run PTN nightly during the entire holiday season, I'll never know! They didn't even bump up the Christmas Parade to run during the evening hours on days when PTN wasn't running so, if I remember correctly, most week days of the holiday season didn't have a nighttime parade.

I was thinking of you when I responded to this question. Ugh, I remember how crazy that was.

I WILL see this dang parade one day!!
Are you planning a trip for this holiday season? I assume it will be back, but was a little put off by the announcement at D23 that it will move to DCA "next year".

If the plan is it for be in DCA in 2018, I don't think we'll see it in DL again before that.

Right?! Yes, we are planning on a December trip and my instinct tells me the parade won't be back until NEXT year, when it's moved to DCA. So I'll probably miss it again! Haha!

So if it's not back in December, I can blame you? :p

I don't see it happening. With the move to DCA, they can now say they're just saving it for then. Save a bundle of cash in the meantime. We're going anyway, right? So they won't incur anymore expenses than they have to.

My only thought is that they might want it back somewhere in December in time for peak crowds over Christmas. It could help split some of the crowd away from Fantasmic.

So with PtN moving to DCA, I wonder how this will work with WOC, especially during the summer when it gets dark late. It doesn't matter for the Pixar Parade because that happens during daylight hours, but PtN has to be after dark - I mean "Night" is in the name! The area in front of the bay is going to be a madhouse with parade viewers and WOC viewers.

Good question. At least Fantasmic and the Parades at Disneyland are separated.

Great point. How is that going to work out....without cancelling WOC.

I've always considered the DCA parades to be inferior. We aren't fans of the Pixar one and don't make any special effort to see it. Maybe they are trying to even out the two parks in terms of quality. I think PTN is possibly one of their best, and I grew up thinking MSEP was absolutely magical. It will be interesting how they handle crowd control.

We could be totally wrong, but husband and I thought the announcement about the New Pixar Pier with the PTN parade move to DCA spelled the end of WOC for next summer. Maybe they are planning to rework/tweak it like they did Fantasmic? I just don't see how they could do both at night? Thought they were breaking the news gently...

We also went the first weekend of Holiday last year hoping to see PTN again...so bummed!!:worried:
I sympathize MacMama0930! And I agree az4boys, grew up loving MSEP...blown away by PTN!

I swear it's the reason I can "sell" another DL trip to husband sometimes...."well, there's a rumor they might bring back PTN....!!!":rotfl2:

There may also be a storage issue-they don't have room for both Pixar play parade and PTN backstage. That's the only thing that would make sense for moving PPP to DL. We may have to wait until it moves before PTN starts up. (Really hoping I'm wrong and it comes back for holidays though)

Not sure what the storage issues are, but they have had PTN plus some other parade stored on many occasions at DL. (Soundsational and Christmas parade).

I think they are using PTN to tie in with the Year of Pixar in 2018 and are trying to spread out the crowd.

But I think the storage for DCA is separate than DL. Because of the bus drop off, Harbor Blvd, and Downtown Disney, the two backstage areas don't connect (at least above ground; there are probably tunnels underneath). Here is a mock-up of the areas:

Disneyland has a lot of area to store things behind Toontown. Some of that got removed with Star Wars land, but still considerably more than DCA. DCA just has a small area behind the Hyperion and another area behind California Screamin. PTN is a pretty big parade, so I don't know if they'd have space for both PTN and PPP.
