I want to take some kitchen items in a carry on luggage. Some of the items are a hot plate, small frying pan, small wire dish rack. Will these pose a problem going thru the scanner for carry on luggage? Will they even be allowed in carry on luggage?

They would be allowed but don't be surprised if they want to manually inspect it since the x-ray may not be able to see through the metal.

Thanks Debbie!!!!!! Thats fine, they will be readily accessible! :goodvibes

The frying pan will be considered a weapon and TSA will most likely confiscate the pan from you.
Recently we were in line headed to Dallas and the lady in the next line was very upset as security took what looked like one of those square flat griddle like fry pans and told her it was considered a weapon.

If you really need these items, maybe mailing would be an option or place them in your checked baggage.

Ok. This is a small round one. I'll take my chances, it's an old pan!thanks!:goodvibes

It might be subjective and depends upon who is searching your luggage.

An example:
I pack the same things in my quart sized bag on every trip. The bag is closed. Just once, a security person had a hissy fit and told me that I had too much stuff in it. The other times both before and after, the agents have said nothing.

I have to ask: Will you be able to fit that bag underneath a seat if all of the overhead storage is gone? Or will you care if that bag ends up gate-checked? Those are both possibilities. Why not just put them in your checked bags?

You just never really know.

I've heard that recently some TSA people have been taking "Realistic Replicas of Firearms" to mean no TOY guns/blasters coming home from disneyworld/land... Sorry, those aren't *realisitic* replicas...why do they think Hasbro/Disney went to the trouble to paint the things bright red, or make it out of see-through pink or lime green plastic?

You just never know....

My carry on bag fits the size requirements. This is a really small frying pan like 5" in circumference. And I'm packing a plastic spatula. If they take it they take it. I'm more concerned that my little hot plate makes it on. I've read everything stated on the web and nothing by TSA says any of this is prohibited. I'll post what happens.... I leave Oct. 11!
