Package problems and other musings

I booked our room a few weeks ago with a AAA discount. That is great, but i started looking at the packages, and the dining option really appealed to my dh and myself, so i started shopping packages. I went through the disney system and priced out the package and them emailed Dreams Unlimited to see if they could do better. Their quote came back exactly the same. I called and asked why the AAA discount was not applied, and they told me that only a AAA agent can do that. I know i have read here that others have been able to secure a package with a AAA discount by going through DU, and i have read where others have actually been able to do it themselves with disney. Why are there so many different instances? It seems like it would either be one way or another, not both!

Any insight, please?

My understanding is DU can do room only AAA discounts but not pkg...for pkgs you have to go through AAA.
