Oz Disney Budgets

The other place I am considering is Caesars Palace as it's so much more central, but I don't know!!!!

Any suggestions?

Cool thanks for that info. I thought I may have been over-budgeting here a bit but wanted to be over, not under, I am yet to organise our exact trip in this section but I am not keen on staying right in Monterey due to the huge prices there.
DH wants to play Pebble Beach and I want to visit Hearst Castle.

Otherwise Santa Barbara, San Luis Osipo (sp??), MOnterey/Carmel, Santa Cruz, whereever else we find/like/is recommended along the way.

Do you think it would be too long (a 10-11 night drive) in this area?

Thanks,

this thread is great.

Caeser's is great and very central. I have a couple of friends that stayed there. I think they paid about $150+ for the room....both sets loved it.

10 - 11 nights driving down Pacific Highway 1 (PH1) is plenty of time, depending on what you want to do. If you can spare that amount of time, there are lots of little things to do in the Central Coast of California; and also around Monterey and around Silicon Valley side.
The last time I did this drive was in Jan 2011 (the link to the TR is in my siggie below if you're interested). We took 2 nights....one night in Solvang and one night in Monterey. We didn't stop by Hearst Castle because we'd done it before; as we had Santa Barbara and Morro Rock previously as well. You will want to stay overnight at San Simeon to do justice to Hearst Castle.

It was stretching the driving a lot between Solvang and Monterey because we were chasing wildlife and waterfalls and stopped a lot.

Santa Cruz is a terrific little town! The Boardwalk there is just fantastic. I think I've posted some pics of the boardwalk in this thread.

The Cancun Resort in Vegas is a timeshare resort, that also rents out to the public. I've stayed in hotels in Vegas, a timeshare on the south-Strip, timeshares in the middle of the Strip. Without kids I would say on the Strip is important. With kids, you get the bus up to the Strip during the day and walk around like a Disney park, then you go back to where you are staying. It's not like you will actually get to go out to clubs etc in the evening if there are young kids involved, unless you have a built in babysitter (nanny or grandparent?) Timeshares win out over hotels with the space.

Timeshares expect you to be a bit more self sufficient than a hotel - you take care of your luggage, you take care of your meals (no room service, you either make your own in the full sized kitchen or go out), you keep the place tidy (most don't have a cleaner come in every day).

Hotel with amazing service where you don't have to do a thing is great for some of a holiday, but having a bit more responsibility is usually ok for some of a holiday too :)
