I thought I would try to update and let you know how Tom is doing ok......legs are a bit sore as the treatment runs through his veins and as a result of the oxaliplatin, we have to be very careful that he does not touch anything cold... have any cold blowing on him, drink anything cold, open the refrigerator or anything like that as it causes spasms in the throat simulating not being able to breathe and can cause painful tingling.. So I am making a concerted effort to make sure anything he driinks is room temperature....and out of a glass... even room temperature out of can gave him pain in his hands yesterday.... We can do this, not too hard, just requires some thinking and planning.

He is now wearing a meter administering 5FU for 3 days and he will have it taken off Wednesday, 11:00am, and we can head home. He prefers his own house and truly who blames him, so back we will go once they disconnect him.. You know as you sit in the chemo room, the nurse, our wonderful nurse who took care of him last night is with us again...the people around you as you all tend to come at the same time, they become your hospital family. I have to say I have never seen more kindess anywhere....people are sick and yet they try to talk and make conversation......

Turns out the woman in the next bed is from our town on Cape Cod.. and has the same cancer, well yesterday we told her that Tom was 4 years in November....she thanked us...her eyes filled with tears, she said you gave me hope... PC is such a bad one that people just do not have much hope, I am glad that Tom's success with this battle, gave her hope.. Who knows what the future will bring, but for now, it is not in any major organs, we will take that, and he looks ok and is pretty strong going in... and we will take that too..

I am thankful to you all that read our story to know that you are all praying and pulling for him.....we would like him to be with us as long as he can....it is not in our hands, it is in the hands of his doctors and then of course, this goes without saying really, the man upstairs...

Hugs all around..

I have gone through chemo with my MIL and remember oh so well how the nurses, assistants, doctors, etc helped us through it. They were a very critical part..

I hope you are both back in the comfort of your own home soon. That does sound difficult with the cold, but surely once you master it, it will come easier.

Tons of prayers for you both.:grouphug: We are all your family as well, and we love you.

Lots and lots of prayers!
I can tell you may not like to be told this (from other posts) but you are an amazing woman! So strong and so sensitive all at once. I am glad you will be back in the comfort of your own home soon.
Keep us posted!

Thanks for the update Marsha. I am glad that Tom seems to be tolerating the treatment well, for the most part. I agree getting home will be comforting too.

How ironic the woman in the next bed was from Cape Cod and with the same cancer? Actually, I think it was planned and the Lord wanted Tommy to provide her with some hope for herself. He is an inspiration to so many people..hugs.

Marsha, thank you for the update. You two truly are an inspiration to all of us.

Marsha first of all I am glad that he is tolerating the chemo well and I hope he continues to be that way.
I do not know how I would have made it through without the support of doctors , nurses and all the assistants last year when my daughter was diagnosed , they have almost become part of our extended family , when we go to philly we go visit them.

Thank you for sharing this journey with us. My Mom, stage 3 PC. Whipple done May 20th. 4 years gives me such hope.

Judi

Judi.. I do hope all the best for you and your Mom... Stage 3 is good... so have hope and tell her to live her life, go for the gusto....everyday.

I have a friend (39) who is stage 4 colon cancer (mets to ovaries & liver and now possibly lung & pancreas) and was the same chemo in the beginning. I remember her having the issue with the cold stuff and would always crave sandwiches but couldn't use mayo. My mom (she is an infusion nurse and gets a lot of good ideas from other patients) had he idea of going to Chick-fil-a and in their condiment section they have individual packets of mayo that do not need to be refrigerated.

I wish you and your family all the best - your strength and courage is an inspiration to all!!

Our prayers and bests wishes to you and Tom. I hope he continues with some positive progress. I bet part of his strengh comes from you, as yours must come from him.
