I thought I would try to update and let you know how Tom is doing ok......legs are a bit sore as the treatment runs through his veins and as a result of the oxaliplatin, we have to be very careful that he does not touch anything cold... have any cold blowing on him, drink anything cold, open the refrigerator or anything like that as it causes spasms in the throat simulating not being able to breathe and can cause painful tingling.. So I am making a concerted effort to make sure anything he driinks is room temperature....and out of a glass... even room temperature out of can gave him pain in his hands yesterday.... We can do this, not too hard, just requires some thinking and planning.
He is now wearing a meter administering 5FU for 3 days and he will have it taken off Wednesday, 11:00am, and we can head home. He prefers his own house and truly who blames him, so back we will go once they disconnect him.. You know as you sit in the chemo room, the nurse, our wonderful nurse who took care of him last night is with us again...the people around you as you all tend to come at the same time, they become your hospital family. I have to say I have never seen more kindess anywhere....people are sick and yet they try to talk and make conversation......
Turns out the woman in the next bed is from our town on Cape Cod.. and has the same cancer, well yesterday we told her that Tom was 4 years in November....she thanked us...her eyes filled with tears, she said you gave me hope... PC is such a bad one that people just do not have much hope, I am glad that Tom's success with this battle, gave her hope.. Who knows what the future will bring, but for now, it is not in any major organs, we will take that, and he looks ok and is pretty strong going in... and we will take that too..
I am thankful to you all that read our story to know that you are all praying and pulling for him.....we would like him to be with us as long as he can....it is not in our hands, it is in the hands of his doctors and then of course, this goes without saying really, the man upstairs...
Hugs all around..
