We made the jump and bought a leather couch a few months ago and we love it! I was wondering how to perserve our investment, do you use a leather cleaner or conditioner on it? We do have a dog that occasionally likes to get on it so I would like know the correct way to clean it.

We are going on 17 years with our leather couch set. In the beginning I would dust it (spraying on the cloth, then wiping). To get scuffs just a use a damp cloth. Ours is dyed (dark green) so I have to careful what type of product I use on it. Just by you using it and the oils from your skin will condition the leather over time. They really are easy to keep clean ( I really just duct them).

My only advise with a dog is NOT TO USE K9 ADVANTIX on the dog if he has access to the furniture. It strips the finish off leather. Use the other stuff for fleas and ticks.

You too! I share your pain. Still need to get this repaired. At least she rested where I could put a throw pillow.

And OP, we got a kit with our warranty; it is Guardsman Leather furniture care kit. It has conditioned dusting wipes. And the warranty is worthless--see comment to Green Tea. I do love my leather though.

THANK YOU!! I would have not known this. Is that only when the spot on the dog looks greasy, is it ok after a few days?

Leather cleaner every few months! Its pretty much maintenance free... I love not having to vacumn dog hair off my couches anymore! :worship::worship::worship::worship:
They are more durable with dogs than I ever thought they would be! :cool1:

We clean and condition ours about every 6 months. Our dark green leather LaZBoy sofa and 2 recliners are over 12 years old and still look new.

We have only had ours a few months as well, and keep part of it covered with a blanket for the dogs to lay on!

As for cleaning we were given a cleaner and conditioner with the set we bought, and have needed to use it here and there as kids don't seem to understand food at the table only.....

We've had ours for 10 years and never treated it. It has a special finish on it called Anoline or something like that. It looks just like new.

10 years ago, we were instructed to clean ours once a year with soapy water from Ivory by rubbing in circle areas and then follow-up with clean water. It had to be Ivory soap because it's rendered beef fat. I've always done that, have never put leather conditioner on it.

Another question - we've been thinking about getting one, but I really don't know about the different kinds of leather. Is there a better kind of leather to look for that will be longer lasting, or are they all similar? As you can tell, I don't know much about this, but I'd love to figure it out, because I love leather furniture and want to get something that will last awhile.
