My 10 year old is fascinated with owls. We haven't been to AK for over 4 years but will be staying at Kidani and going to AK one day. Hoping there are owls somewhere. I searched and can't come up with any info.

Thanks in advance

The only place I've seen owls is in the Flights of Wonder show (which is very good and worth seeing).

Usually about 15-20 minutes before showtime, a CM will come out in front of the FOW entrance with a bird and talk about it/take questions from the crowd. The three times I've seen the show, the 'pre-show' bird has been an owl, but I'm sure that changes from time to time and show to show. It's a neat opportunity to see the bird very close though, so I would definitely check the show times and make sure you're there about 20 minutes before.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if the bird show was still there. I have yet to see it but have a feeling we will be this time around! :thumbsup2

Here is the one they had at last year's Flights of Wonder (Birds of Prey) pre-show. It was beautiful!

The pp's photo reminded me that I have one from the pre-show too!

Another owl :)

We also saw an owl out at Rafiki's Planet Watch - a CM was standing by the side of the path between the train station and the Affection Section with a blind owl. I guess they run a bit of a sanctuary there and have several injured birds.

Definitely do this. If you get there about 25 minutes before show time and stand in front of the preshow area (to the right of the entrance to the theatre - it's outside of the theatre), your child can be right up front. Also, the trainer will be happy to answer any questions about the owl after the preshow should your child have any.

Additionally, after the Flights of Wonder show (you can take your time with the preshow, there will be plenty of seats available after you spend time with the owl), you can go up and talk to those trainers and see those birds and also ask questions about any other kinds of birds.

If you have a child who likes birds of any kind and haven't seen this show, you really need to invest some time to do this.

This is great. We will do just that. My daughter will be so excited. Thanks everyone :goodvibes

Also, you might ask the CMs at the birding area in Panjani Forest Exploration Trail. They might be aware of a wild, local owl in the area. I'm a birder, and I remember on one trip, the CMs were telling me about a wild, local owl, that they used to see in that area when they were coming into work. I don't know if he/she is still around.
