Owlet Sock Monitor - Please give me your opinion

I’m afraid that horse is long out of the barn but at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old bat, I’m very glad I had my kid back when things were simpler.
I agree and think it’s a sad situation. My kids aren’t all that old but I never bought into all the gadgets. And if I ever had another one I wouldn’t do it either. Anyone in my life who has had a baby recently has been told the same thing. I will never understand the need for organic everything (diapers for example)... I guess I’m just stuck in the 80s.

I know a family that used it for co sleeping... for that I think it is a good idea. Whether you support co sleeping or not is a huge parent debate that people have strong feelings about so not commenting on that here... just saying that IF the baby ends up in their bed, I think it’s a good thing to have.

:goodvibes Funny! I was just thinking that my own DMom said the same thing about my electric baby swing and Diaper Genie 25 years ago. And I imagine her mother would have thought it about car seats and Flintstone vitamins. And so the world turns...:rotfl2:

And the scary part is I’m not that old 🤦🏼‍♀️
I’m all for technology but it has its place. Nothing frustrates me more than a woman delivering her baby and the first thing she requests isn’t the baby itself but her phone to make sure the big arrival has been posted for the world to “like.”

OP, whatever your daughter decides is the right one. We can all have our opinions, but each mom has to do what is best for her. I cannot think of one mom who didn't buy something before the baby came and later thought it was a wasted purchase. I had a few, and they came highly recommended (Bumbo seat and a nursing pillow everyone swore by - I cannot think of the name but I just didn't get the hype.)

It may be an expensive wasted item, but even if it gives her piece of mind in those first few weeks when you are terrified of everything it would be worth it. Whatever she decides, I hope no one gives her grief for it.

Had to look that one up.
I am GLAD that products like that did not exist when I was a new parent.

Me too, to both!

I get using a baby monitor (audio only), depending on the home. The cams I think are overkill. Something that keeps track of heart rate and oxygen levels? WAY too much. Just my opinion though.

Agree. My dd is almost 13, and I used audio monitors that one of my friends handed down to me.

But to each his own.

I never had a detailed "birthing plan" either. My plans were simple, give me an epidural and do what is best for both myself and my baby. Tah-dah!! (The L&D nurse gave me a huge smile and said yay when I told her that.)

That is sad. I will admit, I love technology and I know I use my phone more than I would like. But it doesn't take priority over living in the moment. I have no pictures of our last week except dd opening gifts. We were enjoying each other live, not through an iPhone to post to Facebook. (and fwiw, I didn't post anything to social media. I just sent video of dd opening the "big gift" to my parents as they wanted to see her reaction.)

I opened this to find out why people need something to monitor their socks. 😆
I was thinking that maybe it prevented the washer/dryer from eating single socks?

Seriously, I have been watching too many crime documentaries. My first thought it was a new way for authorities to track people on house arrest. 🤷‍♀️
