overpaying disney = extra money on KTTW?

I'm curious, after you've fully payed off a trip that you've booked online, can you continue to "add" money to your trip and have it be a balance on your KTTW card?

I'd like to be able to put money on the KTTW card in advance of arrival as I'd rather have the ability to "budget" by pre-paying. Is this at all possible?

I've heard you can leave a cash balance at the front desk for key to the world card purchases. You can also leave gift cards, if you prefer to not travel with the cash in hand.

Reservations really doesn't have a whole lot to do with the front desk, so I don't think it's possible.

I'd take travelers checks or gift cards to "pre pay" KTTW card purchases. I find it easier to leave the money in one "account" that can be used by any of the KTTW cards for your room. No divvying up gift cards or keeping track of multiple balances.

When you check in, the CM will ask if you want to put a credit card on your keycard. You can buy a VISA gift card before you leave, or go to any Walgreens and they have Disney gift cards you can purchase, if you want to save money and not spend it before you go to Disney.

If it was me I'd just buy disney gift cards and use them to pay off the KTTW charges before you leave disney.

You can't do it in advance. Overpayment will be credited back to your payment method, potentially tying up the funds in the refund process when you need them. You can leave cash at check-in to use as your KTTW limit, or you can pay off your room charges with a gift card. You cannot put a gift card on your room account to enable KTTW charging, BTW; you can pay off the balance that way but still have to leave a credit/debit card on file.

If you go the gift card route be forewarned that Disney will automatically send the outstanding balance to the credit/debit card you have on file immediately if you reach your charging limit and some time in the 24hrs prior to check-out for the final total. We deliberately leave a card with too low an available balance to accept the charge if we want to pay using a gift card to prevent the balance being charged to the wrong payment method.

Ohh yeah, be careful about last day check out charges.

They'll charge you during the night of your check out, and slip a check out envelope under the door so you don't have to go to the front desk. Any charges made on the final day are sent as a second charge at midnight of your check out day. Just in case you plan on going to the parks or shopping prior to leaving.

Sorry, I'm not the well versed in the KTTW charging privileges. I only allowed it once, and wound up with a bill from Disney about a month later for charges made the day of check out. I used our bank account card, and after getting home and seeing the charge from Disney, I didn't think twice of it. There's no overdraft protection on the account, so the second charge got declined.

I only leave a credit card on file for express check out, not for charging privileges.

They don't always wait until overnight the night before you check out, though. If it was 100% consistent that the card would be charged at midnight before check out or something like that it wouldn't be so difficult. You could just stop in and pay off the balance with a gift card before turning in for the night. But we got back to our resort about 11pm on our last full day on one trip and they'd already tried to put the KTTW balance through to our debit card; if we'd had the available balance to cover it we'd have had to hassle with getting that charge reversed so that we could pay with the gift card we'd bought to cover our spending. Fortunately we'd been warned on the DIS and had things set up so that attempting to charge it to the card on file would decline.
