So, since I started school, tuition has nearly doubled. Then I see an ad in my local paper that says "Come pick up your bus pass. It's included in your tuition"

Do you know how much those ads are? I pick up some local papers, lo and behold, there are more ads. There are ads on the sides of buses. They run commercials on major networks, letting us know to come pick up our bus pass. All of this for stupid bus passes.

So here is my concern, how much are all of these ads and year round bus passes that they are included in my tuition? You have got to be kidding me!! I don't want no stinkin bus pass and I shouldn't have to pay for it and the advertising for it. They say our public colleges are in need of more money, ummmmm, lets look at what we are doing.

Summer school is about a grand cheaper than a semester in school for the same amount of credits. I bet it's the bus pass!!!!! :rotfl:

U-Pass eh?

In October, a 23% Fare increase was being talked about for City of Milwaukee residents. I'm not sure how much was actually passed, but a 'weekly' Adult pass would have been $832 a year. I think the University most likely gets a discount on that. With parking at such a premium in the area, I think the pass is a good idea. You know that you can protest it? It's paid with approval from student fees, so YOU have control over it.

I can protest the bus pass? I don't use it and I think it is a complete waste. I tried riding the bus several times and they would be running an hour late, or it would fill up and we'd have to wait for the next bus, it was rediculous. Not worth it.

Who do I need to talk to about not paying for the bus pass?

I don't think it's as individuals. I believe (based on what I read) that your student body has to make that protest. You could start with trying to get them to tell you how much they spend per student for the bus pass.

There may be a way to 'not get' the pass. I'm not sure who you could talk with about it...

at least you're paying for something that's available to you-when i went to college we had a mandatory "health fee". but there was no clinic or health services available to students-ANYWHERE!

I'm sure it's included in the fees. I love our free bus pass! Use it all the time. I think it's nice that they do it for students without cars.
