we are going to a wedding reception for DHs boss this week. I have met him once, he is a great guy. :)

Here is the problem, I have NO idea what to wear!

What I know is
A) Boss is very casual. A real jeans and Tshirt guy in his off time. Very down to earth.

B) the reception will be held at a country club.

C) I have not met his wife, they got married last month out of the country.

So given that information, what do I wear????

Will I be ok in a pant suit? Should I just wear slacks and a nice top?

help!

If it's a really dressy pantsuit, then you can wear it. But if it's casual, then I probably wouldn't.

Country club says "upscale" to me.

See? thats what I think too but DH swears that his boss isnt the type.

I told him it doesnt matter what type his boss is LOL

I agree :thumbsup2 . Hope you have a great time. Sounds like a fun evening!:)

Just because the boss is the casual type at work, doesn't mean the new wife will allow him to be at the reception. I would wear the nicer option.

usually the invitation states casual.

I would go with (at the least) with dress slacks and sport coat/tie, but then again I'm a guy!!!

hehehehe

women? cocktail dress or dressy pants suit?

It the reception in the afternoon or evening??

Evening - definetly dressy. Forget what your DH says about him being casual, wedding receptions are the wife's domain.

Afternoon, maybe a little less dressy, but still nice. IMHO, you can't go wrong with a cocktail length dress in a nice color (for you.)

Ok its an evening reception.

I settled on a nice black skirt with a silk button down top. Not ultra formal but nice enough that I should be able to dress it up with jewelry if it calls for it.

Thanks! :)

Ditto. I would wear a cocktail dress. I personally wouldn't want to wear a slack and a blouse to a wedding. But then again, I like dressing up! :)

Your husband's a guy. They're not the type to know what to wear to a wedding reception.

Sounds perfect to me. Something I would definitely wear :thumbsup2

The wedding was last month on the beach and this is just for everyone to get together and celebrate.

Oh and it is NOT a country club, it is a venue site, it has a winery and a few other things as well. DH said " hmmm I really thought it was a country club"

I looked through the pictures on the venue and it varies greatly. It looks a little dressy but in some pictures people are wearing jeans ARGH they cant make it easy can they?
There is nothing on the invitation to give me a clue, its rather informal itself.

We are driving 8 hours to get there and just spending the night, its going to be a whirlwind but it will be good :)

BTW, I really hate dressing up and now I have to go get some nylons and maybe some new shoes.

Do you know any other women going? I personally think black is good. As you mentioned, you can dress it up or not.

I have one of these on the 14th. They got married yesterday in Cancun, and the reception is in a restaurant-hall. I am wearing a navy blue pantsuit with white pinstripes. It is at 3pm, so I think (hope) this is fine. Now I am second guessing myself  ..Thing is mine is sort of family. It is my SIL's, SIL, and they are Italian as well, so maybe dressier. Got to place a phone call now ;)

Ok lets see if I can do this without giving out too much info.

Here is what the site says now you know why I am confused!

LOL sorry about that!

Nope dont know any other women going. We are out here by ourselves and dont know anyone else who will be there.

Update :)

Well I wore a black skirt with a brown silk shirt and I felt really good about it.

Apparently I wasnt the only one who couldnt figure it out. People wore everything form jeans and sweatshirts to cocktail dresses. It was an interesting mix for sure

The reception was lovely and it was so nice to meet so many new people.

I will pos pictures when I get them.

on another note,
I had to run into Target before the reception I was all dressed up and make up and hair were done. I walked by this girl and she smacked her friend and said "Oh my gosh, did you see her? That girl looks just like Renee Zellwiger!" :cool1: :rotfl2:

I got back into the car laughing and told DH "From here on out, you may call me Renee" :rotfl2:
