Out of state purchase of Sunpass

I'm arriving the thursday before the cruise and renting a car at the airport to tool around town until Saturday. Would a Sunpass order be a good option? Apparently my rental company charges $4 per day PLUS any tolls.

We use our Sunpass with rental cars all the time. You need to call the Sunpass office and have the rental car license plate added to your account as soon as you get out of the parking garage and can get a cell signal. They can set it up to allow for a certain period of time and then the license plate is removed from the account. It has worked for us.

Ignorance is bliss. We drive to Port of Miami I-95 and cut over to Turnpike without any passes. Then we wait to get the invoice in the mail here in SC a couple of weeks later. I understand some rental companies charge a premium so in that case I would do my homework.

NO .... not yet ... with ePass as of 1 Sep but they are not the same ....
Sorry, I was referring to EZ Pass (E-ZPass) being accepted in Florida rather than E PASS. I thought it was up and running months ago. It has been a while since I did the research for a trip later this year. What I saw was here - http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/traffic/os-ezpass-central-florida-tolls-20171109-story.html and here - https://www.cfxway.com/agency-infor...ida-expressway-authority-joins-e-zpass-group/. We were wondering if we needed to plan ahead and set aside change for the run from PC to the Contemporary Resort. 528 and maybe 417. We had a thought regarding trying to make breakfast at the Wave, (Grits! Yum!), but the reservation was moved to a different day.

Thanks for the update! I'll have to check again as I see we'll be traveling CFX and FTE/DOT roads.

If you are in an area with EZ-Pass... I understand they now have an agreement with Sunpass.

EZ Pass is SUPPOSED to work with SunPass but last we tried there were "technical difficulties". We have family/second homes in NY, PA, MD, NC and FL. Did not work. We bought a SunPass and kept having to remember to switch it out as we drove state to state. Then we learn about NC Quickpass which works with all of them plus toll roads around Atlanta.

I got the suction cup kind and use it in rental cars all the time. Just don't forget to remove it before you turn in your car.

You can also turn down the rental car's transponders and pay the tolls manually, yourself. It's really not that cumbersome to stop at them.

does your rental charge $4 a day plus tolls

ONLY on days you encounter tolls?????

and the $4 covers you for 24 hours ......

This is not that bad of a deal .....

details details details

This is what I'm going on:

I'm not sure which is better at this point. $4/day would make sense for the convenience, I suppose, and if cash at the gate isn't that big a deal I can see us doing that too. I come from a land of no tolls (yay, Prairie boys represent!) so it's not something I really understand, TBH.
