Up at 4am and on our way to the Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas at 5am. We had to take the flight an hour away from
Disneyland, into the Ontario Airport, thats California…since the flight into John Wayne Airport which is 20 minutes away from Disneyland was a late flight and would not make it on time. Well we also picked a flight that had no layover and was a direct flight, direct flight you say? Why would there be a layover into another aiport that is not even on the way to Ontario Ca. Airport, I can’t for the life of me explain why you need a layover flight when the flight from Las Vegas to Ontario is just 37 minutes. We were happy that we had the first flight out since we know the plane would already be there from the night before and we had a great chance of it not being late. Far be it for me to break their record of late, very late and canceled flights. The flight was scheduled as delayed even though the plane and crew were already on the plane…well we started boarding about 20 minutes late and after everyone was on the plane someone walked in the door and called out three names and told them they needed to leave the plane. Well those three took that well. So as we sat and sat and sat soon they came back in the plane and over the loud speaker they said instead of just telling people to leave the plane they needed seven more volunteers to leave the plane since over night someone thought to fill the plane up with gas and now it was to heavy to land in Ontario. They offered to send them on the next flight which was a direct flight to Sacremento Ca, and there were people on this plane that had a stop in Ontario and a connecting flight to Sacremento so looked pretty easy to get 7 more volunteers. After about an hour late and no hopes of making it on time to suprise our family at Goofys Kitchen Charactor breakfast we left Las Vegas and arrived in Ontario California in exactly 37 minutes. We ran to get our rental car and soon on the road. Just in time for rush hour. If you have never been in rush hour in California, well consider yourself privledged. We needed to call our Granddaughter In Law and let her know we were coming and not to take a table with less two chairs. She was very happy and said I knew you wouldn’t miss this. We arrived about 40 minutes late but our Great Grandson was so happy to see us. He yelled Pop Pop and Gi Gi are here and gave us both a big hug. We were in time to watch all the charactors stop by the table and greet our family. All that travel and rushing was worth it just to see the huge smile and excitment on our Great Grandsons face as each charactor stopped by to see him. The waiter brought out a big Mickey birthday cake and all was just great. Soon we all met outside of the restaurant our Daughter had to catch her flight home, the other grandmom, Auntie O and her friend she brought with her had to drive back to Las Vegas and our Grandson, Granddaughter in law and Great Grandson wanted to head off to the beach. We all said our goodbyes and my wife and I headed off to the monorail to go to the park. The weather was close to 100 degrees with a lot of humidity and the monorail was not running. So we walked to the park and decided to take the train to the other side of the park since we wanted to go on Pirates of the Caribean and The Haunted Mansion. The train was broken down so we walked. Went on Pirates which was a welcome cool down. Went over to the Haunted Mansion and enjoyed the Nightmare Before Christmas. We saw that the train was now running so we sat at the station waiting for a train and after about 1/2 hour a cast member announced that the train was broken down again. It was so hot we stopped at Harbor House ate and looked at each other and said its just to hot so lets head back to the airport. This flight was out of John Wayne airport and we did not hit any traffic. If you have ever flown out of John Wayne airport it kinda strange. I guess the area homes complained that the planes were noisy so now they have to take off almost like a rocket, almost straight up and then cut the engines to almost a stop as you reduce altitude quietly, once over the ocean they race the engines and continue to fly up to 10,000 feet. Strange feeling. Back home and late but why ruin a record. So far this year I have flown at least 16 times and every flight was either late or canceled. Wonder if that will ever change. But we had a great time and were very happy to be there for our Great Grandsons second birthday. This saturday is a big party for him at Nana’s house our daughter and I will make his Mickey birthday cake which I just got back from the store to get the rest of the ingredients that I needed to make it. Well thats my story and I’m sticking to it:} Thanks much for reading and enjoy the rest of the year. For now I say M…..I……C…See ya real soon….K….E….Y……why because we like you……M….O….U…..S…..E.
