I'm so angry right now and I really need to vent :furious:

I found out yesterday that the school I teach at is changing the dates for spring break to a week later. I had absolutely everything booked...our flight, hotel, even dinner reservations. Now I have to change everything to the last week of February :guilty:. We can't even afford to stay at AKL anymore because all the standard view rooms are booked. It's also costing a few hundred dollars more because the new hotel is more expensive and there was a penalty for changing the flight. What really gets to me is the principal said it was my own fault for booking the trip too early! Never in my life have a heard of a school changing their break this far into the year :confused3

Sorry to vent but I worked so hard to plan everything and make DH's first trip special. I can't believe I have to start all over again :sad2:

Wow, that sucks. Around here they publish the school calendar 3 years in advance. I would be extremely unhappy if I were in your shoes. Sounds like you have most of it worked out even if it will cost you more. This is way too late to be changing the school calendar. I'm surprised the parents haven't complained (of course if you were only a parent, you could just pull your kids out of school for the week and tell the school that they shouldn't have changed the dates on you)

I'm so sorry. That is so frustrating. You can't be the only one that is affected. Many parents organize their trips early.

The only thing I can say, and I might frustrate you more cause you're just venting, is that I have a distinct way of thinking about these situations. I often think that maybe I wasn't supposed to be at a certain place/mode of transportation at a certain time. And that I can never know why I'm being frustrated.

Sorry for all the babble. It just helps me to think that way.

Irregardless, I'm so sorry. Also, I know you wanted AKL but have you considered renting DVC points to keep costs down and having a renting member check availability.

All the best to you,

Lisa

I'm so very sorry to hear that. What a nightmare!

What really gets to me is the principal said it was my own fault for booking the trip too early!

What? Doesn't he know that trips to WDW need to be booked at LEAST 6 months in advance in order to guarantee the resort of your choice?

Never in my life have a heard of a school changing their break this far into the year

Me neither. Every school has this stuff planned out WELL in advance!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope you can make new plans without much hassle. Can you go to the Superintendent of your school?

I am surprised to see that it has been changed, was there not a calendar sent out at the beginning of the school year? I can't imagine that the parents at the school won't do a flip out when they figure it out.

Sorry that you had to change your plans around, hopefully you will have a great trip and be able to put it behind you.

The school calender was put out in August and that's when I started planning. I thought there would be an outcry from the parents but no one else that I spoke to seems bothered by it. It figures this would happen the one time I really plan in advance

I think I need to start looking at things more positvely before I let all that anger ruin my day! Thanks for listening and letting me whine :)

That is incredibly odd. Is this public, private or catholic? In Calgary, the public school calendars are put out 3 years in advance with fine tuning each September but no big changes. Man I would be upset too! Does your trip insurance cover any of this?

How frustrating for you...and I agree with the others, very odd that this change happened so late in the game. I am really surprised.

I do have sympathy for teachers as your schedules are (usually) so fixed. We took our kids out of school 3 weeks ago for a trip to WDW and we had the freedom of picking our weeks. As a teacher, you usually get blocked into really busy times etc.

I hope you find a way to work this out so that you have a wonderful trip!

It's a very small, very specialized private school. I'm still shocked that they can actually do that...I just hope they don't change it again :scared1:

The people I spoke to at Air Canada were actually really nice and I think DH might like the Swan, so hopefully everything will be okay.

Thanks to everyone for your happy thoughts :)

Sorry to hear about your holiday plans. As disturbing as it is though, you're lucky you get to go and be able to stay at the Swan. You won't be disappointed. It is a very nice hotel.

Aaaah....come on ....positive can come after a really long vent. :thumbsup2 You deserve to be very frustrated with this change. Very.

I think the Swan has teacher's rates. Did you nab that rate?

On the brighter side, the crowds are supposed to be smaller the last week of February than they are in March.

Sorry you had to change everything. I've had friends stay at the Swan and both groups absolutely LOVED the hotel. My one friend is also a Starwood (?) points member, so when they checked in, they got a free upgrade to concierge with a corner room with a balcony overlooking the Boardwalk and EPCOT.

Venting is a good thing ... and now you can have some fun with planning again.

Good luck with everything!

I can't tell you how much better I feel after venting and I'm starting to think that everything will work out for the best. We'll have to do a split stay between the Swan and Dolphin because they are both busy with conventions, but the rate is much less than AKL and I love the heavenly beds. It's been years since I stayed at the Swan and it'll be nice to try it again.

I guess I need to work on making new ADRs now!

Thanks for listening :)

Well...here's the positive side of this mess....

You get to do all the planning all over again. LOL I find that a lot of the fun I have is planning the ADRs and stuff. Maybe it's just me though. :rotfl2:

And hey...Swan? Not too shabby. Not at all.

Make sure you don't bring anything back for that principal of yours. He doesn't deserve any Mickey ears.

Have any of the parents complained about this? Or any of the other staff? We always go in Feb and other than presidents day weekend its nice and quiet. Im sure you will have a great time.
