Our Rockin' Trip to the World~February TR! UPDATE 5/15 ~ LINK TO PTR!!!!!!

Great day at AK, Tina. AK is actually our third favorite park (or second depending on how you look at MK and Epcot being almost tied in our books)...we prefer it a whiole lot ore over the Studios.

Max is doing great with the attractions and the characters.

Max did great with the characters, but I figured he would, as he has no problem interacting with new people and got along great with Santa Claus this year. We had such a great time at AK and I'd have to say it's now my number three park, EPCOT being my favorite. There is so much to see and do at Animal Kingdom. Between the safari, FOLK, the Boneyard, and Its Tough to Be a Bug, we were busy for at least half of the day and there was still so much that we didn't see.

Happy Easter!!!!!

Thank you, Ann! Hope you had a great Easter, too! :goodvibes

This is exactly how my favorite parks are ordered as well. :goodvibes

Great update Tina. Max looks like he is having the time of his life. :yay:

We had a great day at AKL! :thumbsup2

Wow, a double-update!

I don't know the "Puddin' Time" reference. Actually, I couldn't get beyond the fact that it was Chapter Seventeen...and all I could think of was Janis Ian's song.

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is obviously by The Tokens.

Looks like a great you had a great day at Animal Kingdom. The first thing we ever did at AK was the Festival of the Lion King show, and we were hit with that same Disney magic you described.

Wow, 45 minutes at the Boneyard. I'm glad Max had such a great time.

Happy Easter!

I need to get to Tusker House for breakfast! One of these days.... :rolleyes1

What a cute picture outside with Donald! :thumbsup2

Glad Max liked the safari- I can't believe he is afraid of birds now. :confused3 ;)

The FOTLK is good but I think I like Nemo more. I just like how Nemo is the story from the movie while FOTLK is about... ummm... bouncing monkeys? :lmao::lmao:

Great updates!!!

I'm trying really hard to do these so I can move along to my PTR for our July trip. I'm just so excited about staying at AKL. Needless to say, I'm reaching for some of these chapter titles. Its not that easy. :rotfl:

We did have a truly magical day! Starting off with FOLK sounds like it would be great. It really is a great show. I just love that music! And its one of the Disney movies that I think Max, Mark, and I all love equally.

And, yes, forty five minutes at the Boneyard... that's touring at AK with a three year old boy for you! He LOVES playgrounds and when pressed, will often say they were his favorite thing about Disney. :lmao: :lmao:

Happy Easter!

Great updates!!!

Hope you had a magical today and got out to enjoy the nice weather.

And, yes, you really should try Tusker House. We loved it and neither Mark nor I are really big breakfast people.

Yeah, I don't get it...all of sudden, like the last six months, Max has become afraid of a number of things that never bothered him before. :confused3 He will only sleep with the lights on, for example. He was much better with the birds by the middle of that day, though. Thank god! We were at a place with farm animals this week and he was very interested in them, which was good to see, since he was a bit leery of the live animals in February.

You're right FOLK doesn't have much going for it in the way of a plot. :rotfl: We just love the music, though. But I think we're going to have try our best to hit Nemo this time, too. Max liked the shows we saw, so I'm going to try and make sure we see more of them this time.

I have to say, I can totally understand Max being afraid of the flamingos. If you think about it, they look like giant pink birds, not unlike Pink Elephants on parade. :scared1: That could be unsettling for a little kid.

AK looks so cool all empty and misty first thing in the morning. FOTLK is awesome! So glad you all got to see it. Oh and if the bleacher seats bother you, if you sit in the very last row in the Elephant section, the wall provides a bit of a backrest. :thumbsup2

I've read so many great reviews of Tusker House I am convinced our family must try it, though the thought of characters and my boys has me :scared1: Love the picture of Max with Daisy so cute

You AK day turned out pretty nice, we did not attempt the boneyard but might have to try it on the next trip

More pool time :thumbsup2 can't wait to see if you make your dinner ADR

whoopsie! Didn't see a Pt. 2 last time!

Why, oh why, is it so hard to get any decent shots on Safari? Bad cameras? (in my case) Worse photography skills? Uncooperative animals? :lmao: I liked yours though!!

I"m afraid I"m going to have to join the Nemo camp. Whereas FoTLK made for some great energy and sing-along, Nemo brought me to tears. And not just the story, the sheer beauty of it is so amazing. Then again, we have only seen the LK movie only a handful of times, and don't have that emotional connection that you and Max do.

The Boneyard seems to be a BIG hit with the 5 and under crowd. Someday, I'll have grandkids to take there!! :woohoo:

Tina your photos and update are terrific. I just love the empty misty park in the morning. Makes me even more determined to make rope drop at AK, even if I have to do it alone (and I'm pretty sure that would be kinda nice...:goodvibes)

Max looks so cute giving his big hug to Daisy. Love it!!! Katie's first characters ever at WDW were Donald & Daisy:lovestruc

what's the puddin' reference? I guess I will hit google after this.

Love the Lions Sleeps.....reference. we are corny enough that we probably sing this at least once everytime we go to a zoo or AK!:rotfl: (ok, I am anyway, DH tolerates me..:lmao:)

What a great day at AK! I've been dying to eat at Tusker House for some time now, but for some reason I can never make it happe. :confused3 Next time!

We spent over an hour in the boneyard when I was there...and a good thirty minutes of it was solo babysitting time for me, which was a bit stressful! What a cool spot for little kids, though!

What great updates! I loved getting to AK before RD to go to Tusker for Breakfast. So much so that I plan to pay oop for a breakfast there on our next trip. It is such a sight seeing the park misty and empty.

I am glad you liked FOTLK. I also am in the Nemo camp... but I do love this show too. I like all the shows... :goodvibes

We had a truly magical day at AK. The mist in the morning was beautiful and I'm glad that my pictures communicate that, even if just a little bit. Thanks for the tip...they didn't bother me, I just was expecting a theater. I loved the seating, actually. Not a bad seat in the house.

Yeah, we did some practice runs with costumed characters with Max before we started running the character meal circuit. And every time, he was his usual, charming self, thankfully. Because he so often isn't.

The Boneyard was great for Max. I think because it was quite clearly just a seriously souped up playground, he felt comfortable there. He knows how to slide down a slide and climb things. He's less sure of dark rides or things that are designed to startle or scare you.

The scary part of the Boneyard for parents, though, is how easy it is to lose sight of your child and with that many kids there, I didn't feel comfortable just letting him run loose while I watched.

And I had the next update all set..ready to go...and then I lost it. Hit something on the computer and POOF! Oh, well. I'll get around to re-doing it soon, I'm sure. :sad2:

As for the safari photos, I know that for me it is combination of my lack of technical skills and my junky camera. I still got some good onces and I'll always have that mental photo in my mind of the exact moment the bus turned and what appeared to be the African savanna just opened up in front of me. I had one of those moments were I truly felt that I was somewhere else... Magic! :goodvibes

I think Max liked it so much because its very familiar to him and he likes to know the lay of the land, so to speak. And, yes you will...

Thank you! And I would strongly encourage you (or anyone) to go and do at least one or two of the things you alone really want to do while you're at Disney. Personally, I know I will be sneaking off to evening EMHs at MK. :lmao: Luckily, I have a husband who'd rather be sleeping at that time of the night! :lmao:

What a great day at AK! I've been dying to eat at Tusker House for some time now, but for some reason I can never make it happe. :confused3 Next time!

AK was really fantastic. Definitely one of the best park days of the trip. :thumbsup2

You were solo in the Boneyard. :scared1: That's frightening. Luckily, my mom and my husband were all there, so it was much easier to keep it covered.

Funny you say that about Tusker House, as I'm 99% sure it is the only character meal we're doing in July, and I will be paying OOP for it. I really loved it. I hate to sound corny, but we've all fallen so in love with the Lion King that AK really connected with me this time in a way that it just did not when we went last year, prior to my seeing the movie. Don't know I managed to not see it when it was first out. :confused3 I saw "The Little Mermaid," and "Beauty and the Beast," so I don't know how I missed LK.

After the comments in response to this update, I think we'll have to try Nemo this time around! And probably try to fit in both of them. Max really enjoyed the shows!

Happy May Day, everyone! Just wanted to say hello and that I have not disappeared. This week was very busy and felt very long, as it was our first week back after break. I was also frustrated when I lost the most recent update I had done due to a computer (operator!) error. Hopefully, I will re-do that soon and get it up. I am really looking forward to wrapping this TR up so I can move to my PTR!:banana:

After our magical day (OK, so it really was more of a magical morning, when you get right down to it!) at AK, we headed back to CSR to relax and spend some time at the pool. It was feeling downright hot...and that felt WONDERFUL!

We had originally had an ADR at Biergarten that evening but, as would become a recurring theme on this trip, we cancelled it. No one felt much like trekking over to EPCOT. Wonder why... after three early morning character meals in a row! Besides, it was so beautiful right where we were.

We walked over to El Centro and I took several pictures of CSR on our way:

Looking back at the Cabanas:

I really loved the beachy feel of the Cabanas section and our location was stellar; close to the pool, the bus, and not too terribly far from El Centro.

Mark and Max on the small bridge that separates the larger lake from the small lagoon in front of the Cabanas:

Looking across the lake, toward the Cabanas

Ah....palm trees...

CIMG1118-1.jpg

A beautiful tree in full bloom, right outside of El Centro:

CIMG1123-1.jpg

We made our way into El Centro and Max stopped to throw a penny into the fountain in the lobby. If you look quickly, it appears that he’s flying!

CIMG1126-1.jpg

We could have a good meal...if we had not kept walking past Pepper Market into Maya Grill. Oh well. This is where the dining plan can seriously get you in trouble, particuarly the deluxe plan. Because we were on it, I figured going to table service was the way to go. Ugh...

And here is the documentary evidence of our truly crap-tastic meal:

Max’s cheese stick appetizer:

CIMG1129-1.jpg

I had mussels, along with shrimp, and possibly some clams in a very blandy, watery tomato broth.

CIMG1130-1.jpg

Mark got the queso which was disgustingly gloppy, greasy, and gross.

CIMG1131-1.jpg

My mom played it safe, and probably made the best choice, and got a Caesar salad, that was served with a nice Parmesan crisp.

CIMG1132-1.jpg

My mom’s steak:

CIMG1133-1.jpg

Mark’s fried fish tacos, which were yucky:

CIMG1134-1.jpg

I had some kind of beef tacos which were also not very good. I just remember everything being sort of bland and greasy.

CIMG1135-1.jpg

Max had the macaroni and cheese:

CIMG1136-1.jpg

We got dessert, which were these small shot glasses. They were OK. All told, it didn’t bother me all that much, as we were on the dining plan, but I felt badly that my mom spent so much money to have such a sub-par meal. I have had plenty of mediocre meals in my life, but this went way past that and all the way to gross. I would not recommend Maya Grill to anyone, even if you’re staying at CSR. Go to Pepper Market, the food is a lot better and a lot less expensive!

After a stop in the gift shop, we made our way back to the room and I think everyone was asleep pretty quickly that night.. After all...we had a big day the next day...Buzz...Woody....Lightening and Mater...we must be headed to Hollywood Studios!

Okay, if that's a song in the chapter title, I really have absolutely no idea!

I love that picture of Max throwing a coin into the fountain. He does look like he's flying!

Bummer about the dinner. I gotta admit, the food does look kinda gross in most of those pictures. :crazy2:

Tina, I love the picture of Max throwing the penny.

We've only eaten at Maya Grill once and that was breakfast. I'm so sorry your meal was not good. It is funny how some people love htings and some truly dislike it. I have a friend here on the DIS who I met in person last year, who stayed at the CSR in 2009 and didn't like the resort; but she LOVED Maya Grill and went back last year for dinner and is going back again this year. :confused3:confused3:confused3

It is really a song, although the parentheses are mine. :rotfl: I'm really starting to reach for those titles/song lyrics at this point.

And, yeah, dinner was pretty awful. In fact, almost comically so.

Thanks, Kathy.

We had had breakfast there on our first trip in February '10, when it was still a buffet. It was pretty good. I liked it and thought going back for dinner would be a pretty solid substitute for leaving the resort for dinner. But, who knows. From what I've noticed on AllEars, it seems that the menu changes a lot, or it has recently. And restaurants can all have off-days, certainly. Then again, look at Cali Grill. Mark and I and Karin and Tom love it there and Nicki's not had great experiences there.

But...seriously...who wouldn't love CSR? :confused3 Thankfully, there's something for almost everyone at Disneyworld!

:headache::confused3 for the meal, that really stinks, dining plan or not you paid for it, and it just sounds awful.

The picture of Max in front of the fountain is really cool:thumbsup2

Sounds like a nice relaxing day, can't wait for Woody and Buzz

Ew, Maya Grill looks pretty gross. Sorry you had such an awful meal.

Love the picture of Max at the fountain. :thumbsup2

Yep...awful it was! Oh well. And thank you! At least one pic from the back that looks good! :lmao:

What are you going to do? It happens. It can happen anywhere. And now I know for the next time we're staying at CSR, which will undoubtedly happen sometime soon-ish! :rotfl:

Oh, such a shame. I hate spending money (DDP or not) on something and have it just not be good- ie. my fried wontons at Y&Y. I can't say I've had a truly AWFUL meal anywhere last year, but there were a few things I just didn't LOVE.

The resort does look dreamy though. I would like to stay there someday- perhaps with a split stay there and AKL. Your photos are awesome of the area.
