Thanks so much to all of the posters on the Disneyland section of the Disboards!
We just completed our first trip to Disneyland in many years, after many more recent trips to Disney World, and the advice we got here was wonderful!

We stayed at the Annabella Resort, as we were there officially for a convention for my husband. We found this to be a really great hotel in an excellent location. As I had read here on these boards, the walk is mostly on Disney property and is pretty – especially at night with the lights on the trees. We walked up Disneyland drive and cut through the Grand Californian to Downtown Disney to go back and forth to the parks. The only night I felt like the walk was long was the night we stayed late for fireworks and Fantasmic, but I was already tired before we got out of the parks. My kids were always fine in the morning, but usually crowded on to our Joovy Caboose for the walk back.

We arrived on Thursday and managed to get quite a bit done before the rain started. We toured the parks WDW style (touring plans, meals planned in advance, etc.), and were not too troubled by the wet weather, with the exception of show cancellations. Crowds were never an issue, even on the nice weather days and the Holiday weekend, although I had worried about that beforehand. We never waited more than 15 minutes for a ride or attraction. We used a combination of touring plans, Fastpasses and the Mousewait app.

We ordered WOC picnics for the Friday show (2/18.) The food was decent, but the weather was not. We managed to get the spot by the fire hydrant in the blue section about a half hour before showtime, and waited in the rain. The wind picked up a few minutes before showtime, and the show was delayed. They eventually started the
Show, but stopped it a few minutes in.

The next night we had scheduled the Fantasmic Dessert package, and that show and the fireworks were cancelled due to weather. We ended up seeing all three shows when the weather improved toward the end of our trip, but didn’t see them from ideal locations.

We attended four character meals while we there. The order of our preference is as follows:
1) Minnie and Friends at the Plaza Inn: This was the best character interaction we’ve experienced at any character meal at any Disney Park. So many characters, and they really spent a lot of time with our kids and interacting with each other.
2) Surf’s Up at the PCH Grill: This was my 8 year old’s favorite character meal. We came at the very end of breakfast and were almost the last people seated, so we had a lot of interaction with the characters. Minnie Mouse and Stitch were so much fun here, but the other characters were a little lackluster. The variety of food was not good, but that could also be a result of the late seating.
3) Goofy’s Kitchen: Pretty good food, and I liked that the characters had their names on their aprons. We didn’t like the fact that we were tucked away by ourselves behind a partition. The character interaction felt awkward and rushed, and I missed seeing the activity of the characters moving around the restaurant.
4) Storyteller’s at the Grand Californian: The food was good, but we didn’t recognize most of the characters and they didn’t spend much time with us. The best feature of this breakfast was being able to use the special park entrance by showing our receipt. They were handing out WOC fastpasses at this entrance the morning we went, and that’s how we got our second chance at seeing WOC.

Our overall consensus is that the rides that are at both Disneyland and Disney World are better at Disneyland. The things I missed most were all the non-park diversions that are available at WDW. (diverse resort theming, resort activities, etc) and the Magical Express.

I have millions more observations, but I'll stop here. Please let me know if you have any questions!

I'm so glad you guys had such a great time! We did too! The weather was pretty nuts hey? We were absolutely drenched by the time we made it back to our hotel on Friday and Saturday. BUT the bad weather in the evenings sure was worth the no line-ups and crowds in the mornings.

You didn't find Sunday to be too busy? We actually saw lines for Space Mountain up to 75 minutes and most other rides were at least an hour. That day was just insane for us! We kept getting stuck in gridlocks until we figured out which pathways to stay away from. We asked a few CM's if this was normal and they all said it was very busy for PD. They also predicted that Monday would be just as bad if not worse but we found it to be less than 1/2 as full (yay!).

What day were you at Minnie's? We went our first day and LOVED every minute of it. The kids ate nothing because they were having so much fun with the characters. I couldn't believe how much interaction there was, multiple times with each character. Fantastic!

We saw WOC on Saturday and I'm so glad. I would have been disappointed if it had been cancelled. It was a good show but I honestly would not put all the effort in to see it again.

Our favorite ride was definitely Soarin'. I lost count how many times we rode that.

I kept watching for lime green ears but never saw any... I figured I couldn't miss those babies! :lmao:

We were there too! I just posted a thread about our trip this morning. We didn't find crowds terrible, but it's certainly not like the fabled off-season we always hear about (nor did we expect it to be as we knew it was a holiday weekend and many kids like ours were off school). We usually go during spring break, summer, and Thanksgiving though, and crowds these last few days certainly weren't on that level. I found the park much more bearable to walk around in for one thing. We did notice the long wait for Space though on Sunday and Monday. I felt like some ride lines were pretty high compared to the crowd levels, but that probably has to do in part with having Splash and Star Tours down. Also, there were no parades to absorb people's time in the afternoons and evenings. We were able to get a better than usual fireworks spot up on a porch along Main Street only ten minutes before the show with almost no planning on Monday night though.

Sunday was a "no-parks" day for us. I did hear that it was busy that day, but we were off having character meals and exploring the resorts and Downtown Disney. We did the "Pick a Pearl" thing, which my girls totally loved!

On Monday we saw the long line for Space Mountain, but we walked right past it using our Fastpasses, so it wasn't a problem!

What is "Pick a Pearl"? Thanks!

SM was actually shut down for a while Monday morning. We returned for our FP time and it was down. We went back later and it was pretty crazy but like you, we didn't have to wait too long because of FP. Not sure how long it was down for so that likely caused the huge lines.

HM was down for a while too on Monday. My girls were so upset as they wanted to go on it one last time.

I've never heard of "Pick a Pearl" either... What is that?

We went to Pearl Factory in Downtown Disney.

I have been wanting to do that with them since our last WDW trip, but we never had time to do it before. The girls really loved it, although I think it might have been more of a "Disney" experience at the Japan Pavilion in Epcot (where I heard about it first.)

$14.99, but they get you with extras. If I had been organized enough, I would have bought pearl cages on ebay before I went, but I ended up spending extra for the basic setting and a chain.
