This is our 3rd trip using PAP's bought in July. I have always dreamed of spending NYE at MK and this time got my Disney Wish Granted!!!
12/31 Up Early! Need to get to MK before it closes out for the day! We arrive in the Parking lot at 8:15am and the cars are alreday at the lower Pluto sections! It was forcasted as a 60ish cloudy day so we brought our sweatshirt to go over our tees later. There was even a line for lockers!! We headed over to Tomorrowland and got FP's for SM. Only an hr wait! Rode the TTA and did AO in the mean time! By the time we left the area the line for SM was all the way to the Lunching Pad. Also snacked on a Glactic Gobbler (turkey leg). We let the kids do a double ride on SM while I went to tape COP. Got it out, turned on the camcorder and "NO TAPE" flashed up on the screen! Dang! Took the old tape out but I must have left the other tape in the room! Bummer! Well, we will come back wed when I won't be as crowded. We headed over to Pecos Bill for lunch. VERY CROWDED! DH's got FP for BTMR while we get lunch and a table. The burgers and fixins bar were good. We head over to Tom Sawyer's island (first time there!) and let the DS's run off and explore. DH and I played checkers! I explored the island while rounding up the DS's and off to BTMR. DS1 was misbehaving and had to pass on the first ride while DS2 got to ride with me! Folks were handing us FP's that they were not using! From here we went to POC with a short wait, the Tiki show and the Aladin ride. Then had our first DOLE Whip float! Very Yummy! We headed over toward flag lowering ceremony and it was very moving. We went to the locker to put on our mongramed matching Disney sweatshirts since the weather was getting cooler!
Then over to the Plaza Restaurant where we had a PS for dinner at 5:30. The advertised time for the distribution of hats and horns was 6pm, but I noticed at 5:15 some folks already had theirs! My DH looked at the menu and gave me his order, then took off to Tomorrowland for our freebies! The hostess at the door almost would NOT let us in because my DH was not with us. I told her I knew what he wanted and she did let me in. It took my DH over 30 min to get back and his Cheese steak sandwich had been on the table about 5 min. He said he had had $4 ones at home that were better. My "Pear and Chicken" (they were out of strawberries) was ok, but nothing special. The kids had the burger/hotdog combos. We also had some shakes. They were good but overall the food was overpriced for what you got.
Over to HM to see if I can catch up with Safari Steve. Must have just missed him cause several said he was (or had been) there that day. Another time! Over to Small World, Carolsel and tea cups! DS1 had to misbehave by turning around backwards on the horses while the ride was moving! Will my wayward 9yo ever learn??? He "skips" the tea cups and is "made" to ride Winne the Pooh (which he hates now!) We staked out a place to watch the fireworks later. In front of Mrs Potts cupboard seemed great! We wanted a 10pm snack so we went back to the Plaza restaurant hoping to get their icecream deserts, but we arrived one minute after 10pm and they would not seat us! We ended up at the Plaza Ice cream shop and the Dole Whip stand. After their treats my DS's fell asleep! We watched the Spectromagic parade from the overhang at the Plaza Pavilion. We had a friendly bystander to take our group pic in front of the castle then we headed over to Mrs Potts area to find us a good Fireworks seat. The kids were still asleep and were very cold so I bought a Tigger beach towel to keep the wind off them. Midnight finally arrived and the Fireworks were spectacular!! We were so close to the main show we were hit with ash fallout! We waited a bit to get to the exit but the ferry and monorail line was packed. A CM with a red flasher light said the magic word "BUSSES". We went to the line and waited about 10 min and got on the "MOUSE HOUSE" buses to the parking lot. We had to wait for the tram just a bit but then we were off to crash at the Hampton inn! Only 8 min to get back!
1/1/01 For New Years Day we planned a later entry into Epcot. We took the monorail over from MK and waited to do the "front" ride! My DS's love this! We arrived at Epcot about 11am and got FP's for TT at 5pm! We had a PS for the Garden grill at 12n. This was our first time here and it was a good meal. I asked at the podium about the rehitching ceremony and they knew exactly what I was talking about! We enjoyed the changing scenery as we ate. The food was good and we had some more of the catfish. The rehitchin was "sprung" on my DH. Our actual anniv. was back in August but we didnt make it last July. When he was asked would he take me again he said "Absolutely!" (tear, sniff!) Our DS's didn't know quite what to make of it. We did the Food Rocks and Lion King shows in the land.
We went over to explore Innovations East and West. My DH loved the IBM video road course, my DS's all the video games. In West TAPPI has and exibit and my DH is involved with this group. You can make your own sheet of paper while there. I enjoyed the "house of the future". On to TT. I sent the family over to Immaginations while I went over to the Rose and Crown to check out the wait. Not too long but filling up fast! We checked in at 7:10 for our 7:40 PS. We were given a table in the "outdoor heated patio" area. We were not near the heaters (closer to the edge) and we were still cold. My DH had the barley soup and the fish, I had the pie sampler. All were good! We lingered to have dessert and watch Illuminations. They rolled up the plastic curtians to give us a clear view. It was a great place to watch the show. We head back to Hampton Inn to give our bodies a deserved rest!
1/2/02 I went to MK this morning on a mission: To tape COP, HM and HOP. We actually made to the rope drop this time! We hustled over to Tomorrowland for a SM FP and my DS rode Buzz, AO & TTA. I made it over to hall of presidents and taped the show. Went over to HM although I'm not sure if it turned out yet. On the way back to COP the rains started in earnest. I got COP taped without a hitch. Went over to see Timekeeper. This was a great show! I don't understand why they would close it. I did get a couple of robot shots that said 2002! We grabbed a combo lunch of Galactic Gobblers (turkey legs) and Cheese steaks from Cosmic rays. They were both good. Since it was raining even harder we opted to skip MGM and go to Disney Quest. As I feared it was packed! I ended up doing some of the gamecard arcade area. For my $20 card I got enough points for a freezable drink mug with the DQ logo on it. We left for dinner at Wolfgang Pucks. My DH had the sushi platter (again). I had the baby spinich salad (again!) and the clam chowder. I ordered the souffle for desert. My DS's ordered the pizzas. The food was all good but the desert was a dissapointment. Just a warm chocolate cake with warm sauce and icecream. Even the bill listed it as Choc. Cake!! We went back to the Hampton Inn and watched the football games. Watched the weather channel about the Snow in Atlanta. Actually I crashed about 9pm and don't remember much after that.
1/3 - With the news of the bad road conditions in ATL we decided to head on out to get back in the daylight. We checked out with no added charges what so ever!! We ate a Perkins on the way out but the food was not that good and the service was slow! Left Orlando at 10am and was back at home in Marietta by 4:30pm, with just one 15min stop!!! The roads cleared off by noon time and we had no problems getting home.
We enjoyed this trip for the reasons we went on it, to experience NYE at the World!
