i do about half depos and half court. and court's the same as far as the attire. i wonder why people think that showing up in front of a judge and baring mid drift is a good idea????? although as one of our judges says, "if they had any common sense they wouldn't be here in the first place." once in juvenile court a 14-year-old girl showed up in her house shoes. i was like why would her mother let her do that??? but i guess that's why she was in juvenile court.
this has nothing to do with attire, but i have to mention it. the craziest deposition i ever did was a divorce case where the wife had been adopted as a baby, then met her biological parents in her 30's. well, a few years later she was on vacation with her biological father and ended up sleeping with him.

and these weren't your typical jerry springer people, either. they had lots of money and great jobs and kids, a big house, all that stuff. crazy!
i don't know if you've ever seen this. a fellow court reporter sent it to me. i'm not making fun of this lady because i'm sure she's mentally ill, but i don't know if i could have held a straight face during the swearing-in part. and i don't know HOW IN THE WORLD that court reporter transcribed ANY of that!
