What made me smile, OK, I was chagrined :lmao:when at 8AM on our first morning in a cabin at Glacier NP the housekeeper woke us up to clean the room! We never gave housekeeping much thought while at our DVC homes!

I'm glad we went to Glacier while I can still do some walking. WDW is not the only place where there is so much to see and do! Temps of 29 degrees F a few nights! We were not camping!!:goodvibes

PS. While we were away, sellers accepted our offer for 50 VB points. We had asked our DS/DDiL to look ahead at the sort of accomodations they would be wanting...beach cottages for a few days every so often, (those are getting pricier due to the reallocation) or a 2 bedroom for them at WDW and a studio for us in the future., It seems that we are outgrowing the 2 bedrooms that "sleep" 8. There are "only" 7 of us when we are together, but we 7 take up lots of space. OVERWHELMINGLY they said to stay together at WDW, but if we were to add on points, it's the VB BC vacations that wins their vote. So...we're adding on there, to be sure we can get 3-4 nights for us and them.

So happy for you, Bobbi! I know how much you relish those beach cottages at Vero. Enjoy! :goodvibes

Congrats Bobbi!

And it sounds like your trip is off to a great start. Enjoy!! :thumbsup2

Perspective Bobbi, perspective! You're at Glacier National Park, fer crying out loud!!!

Lots of great hikes there, but some of them have a bit of elevation change.:o

An easy one is on the East side -- boat tour on Lake McDonald and then an easy hike to a waterfall.

Another great one is from Many Glacier lodge -- boat across two lakes and then hike up to Grinnell Glacier. That one's got some up in it, but beautiful hike.

BTW, you know how to tell grizzly scat from black bear scat...right?

Have fun!

We are home now, and we did enjoy so many beautiful views! Jim, we didn't realize that the one hike from Lake MacDonald would not be hard....something to do the next time! On our second stop at Logan Pass Visitor's center it was snowing, hard, and eventually that day they did close Going to the Sun road. I was glad that at that point that we were with the Red Bus tour company. We enjoyed some ranger talks and especially the one on Moose!

We saw a female moose with her calf along and in the Swiftcurrent River and another female just a bit downstream from them.

As we sat in Lake MacDonald Lodge, DH noticed the similarities to our beloved DVC, the VWL! Of course, we have the carved animal statues:goodvibes, and that lodge had the real things. The open floors around the atrium were great reminders of "home."

We're signing our portion of the VB agreement tonight...thanks for the well wishes.

PS. JimMIA, if you care to elaborate, please do...no, I don't know the difference. We did not see bear, and are among the very few visitors who didn't. Besides the moose, the other noted sightings were through binoculars, a mountain goat who was so beautiful, and some Rocky Mt. Longhorn sheep.

I was just up at Lake McDonald Lodge the end of July. It was much warmer then - must have been 70 degrees during the day.

Doesn't grizzly scat have bear bells in it?

HAHAHA:lmao:

It was warm during some days, and then there was Sunday, that was the snow day.

Many Glacier Lodge is even moreso -- really a beautiful setting, if not the most spacious of accommodations!

Deb nailed it.

For those who don't know what we're talking about, at many of the parks out west the shops sell "bear bells" which are supposed to scare off bears. Bears have notoriously poor eyesight, and the theory is that "bear bells' jingling on your boots will alert the bears to your presence. But if you see "bear bells" in scat, you know a grizzly is around.

Bear bells don't actually work on any kind of bear. If you take a hike with a ranger, they'll probably be clapping their hands as they walk. That does seem to work...sorta.

Next trip - and you have to do a next trip since you didn't see a bear - take the hike up from the Logan Pass visitor center. You'll see both mountain goat and BIGhorn sheep there. My last visit, I could have petted a mountain goat -- although being a trained professional, I would never think of such a thing!

If you stay at Many Glacier Lodge, the bighorns come in and sit alongside the entrance road at sundown. You can get WAY too close to them.

Many Glacier Lodge is one of my most favorite places to stay. Reading these posts brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing a little bit of Montana on the disboards!

We took the ranger tour of Many Glacier Lodge, and we stayed in that area at the Swiftcurrent motor inn. That's the area from which we took the walk to the river and saw the moose.

Every ranger talk began with the information that you were in Bear Country, and gave insights about being sure that you talk loud, sing, clap, but don't yell out anything with "bear" in it as you hike because that could cause a panic.

It was the Ken Burns PBS series that introduced me to Glacier, and I'm so glad for that.
