My DH and DD have trouble sleeping the night before any Disney trip, so they were ready to roll early in the morning. I tried to sit on them as long as I could, but everyone was up and ready to go by 3:30 a.m., so off we went. We arrived at Disney about 10:30 a.m. and pre-checked into Old Key West. We were staying in two studios for this first night and then switching over to a grand villa for the rest of the stay. One of our studios was ready and one wasn't, so we went to the one that was ready and dropped off our stuff.

We had lunch at Olivia's, which was really very good. We all shared a shrimp dip appetizer that was wonderful. Then Larry and I shared a shrimp po' boy sandwich and Tara got a shrimp pasta dish. Can you tell we like shrimp? We then caught the bus to Downtown Disney and Tara did some shopping in the pin traders store. I bought a facial mask at the Basin store, and then we did a little shopping in the World of Disney store for key chains and such. Tara bought a Stitch themed Trouble game here that we played later in the week and it was a lot of fun. Then we decided to share a banana split at Ghirardelli's. It was okay, but we prefer the ice cream concoctions at Beaches and Cream. By this time, we were beginning to tire, so we went back to our studio and rested.

The rest of the family soon arrived and by then the second studio was ready, so we all got settled and then went out for dinner at Margaritaville. This was my sister's choice and I am glad I got to try it, but I am truly a Disney person and I did find that I preferred the atmosphere at Disney dining establishments to this one at Universal. Having said that, the food at Margaritaville was very good. Tara had a spicy pasta dish and Larry and I shared a Cuban meatloaf sandwich, all of which we enjoyed. The service was rather on the slow side, but the restaurant was jammed with people, so I am sure they had their hands full. There were entertainers walking around on stilts, and one in particular decided to mess with our table, so that was lots of fun. I think if the three of us hadn't been so tired (and Tara was fighting a nasty cold, as well), we would have been more into it, but we just wanted to get back to Disney and get to bed to be prepared for the next day!
