Trip: April 16th through 20th.
DH, DW, DD 9 and DD 13.
Waking up at 6 a.m. and checking out what the Easter Bunny left, we had a quick breakfast and headed for the Akron/Canton airport at 8 a.m.
We flew into Orlando at 3:00 p.m. on Easter Sunday and used the Magical Express service (A grumpy guy in the line next to ours complained about how long he had waited, but we only waited about ten minutes for our bus, although it took a while to get everyone aboard and out of the airport. It didn't sound like he was ready to have a good time.)
We rode to Pop Century, where we checked in after another short wait and hurried to our room on the 4th floor of Bldg. 10, the '70s section. We stayed at Pop on our visit last year (the '80s section), and found the room to be adequate in size for our needs. The wallpaper and bedspreads, not too visually appealing, but clean. We hopped a bus and were at Animal Kingdom by 5:30. (Based on TGM's recommendation for the day.) Since it was
so late in the day, we didn't even attempt to get any fast passes. We started out with Triceratops Spin, with just one load of passengers ahead of us before we climbed aboard. Nice breeze in the heat of the afternoon sun. Next, we got on Primeval Whirl with a less than 10 minute wait. DD 13 and I had ridden it last year. All I remembered was it made my neck ache. This time it made my teeth ache, too. DW and DD9 weren't too impressed with it. I love the design of it; but the ride itself, not so much. Next we waited less than five minutes for It's Tough to Be a Bug. We enjoyed it last year, but, this time DD 9 asked DW if she could sit on her lap during the show. The "surprise" special effects in the seats weren't her favorite part. The short wait meant we didn't have time to fully enjoy all the posters and
carvings along the path to the show, but I did take a few photos. After that we headed for Harambe and the Kilimanjaro Safari, which we walked on. A few animals were active, and we got some nice video of the male lion patrolling his hilltop. Since we hadn't stopped for dinner yet, we headed for Tusker House at 7, but found it had closed already. Since AK was going to close at 8, we decided to ignore TGM's advice and try MK for the evening. We took a bus to the nearby Animal Kingdom Lodge, then caught a bus to MK, and arrived there about 7:40. We made our way through the crowd to the Columbia Harbour House and had a quick bite to eat (well, we were out by 8:30, so for our family, that was pretty quick). We headed for Fantasyland, which at this time had some fairly manageable crowds on several of the rides. We started with Small World (less than 5 minutes waiting), then walked on Cinderella's Carrousel. After that we got FP for Winnie the Pooh and took our stomachs for a spin on the Mad Tea Party (again, less than a 5 minute wait). We followed up with one of our favorites, Mickey's Philharmagic, which was probably only half full for this showing. Our timing had been really good, since the inner doors swung open only a couple of minutes after we walked into the building. Afterward, we had maybe a two minute wait for Snow White's Scary Adventure, and then we used our fast passes for Pooh. The carrousel was still line-free, so we took another ride, then walked onto Small World again. DD 9 loves Dumbo, so we waited 15 minutes to ride that. While DH and DD13 went to Haunted Mansion (less than 5 minute wait), DW and DD 9 rode Pooh again, and took a third spin on the carrousel. We decided to head back to the hotel as the Spectromagic parade began at 11:00, so we watched a few of the floats go by before making our way out to the bus. We had a bit of a wait for the bus, and it was nearly midnight when we got back to our room. It felt like a great evening, having made it through 16 activities and a meal in less than six hours at two parks. The crowds had been very heavy at MK, as expected, but during the 9:00 parade and the later fireworks, Fantasyland cleared out some and made for an enjoyable time for riding. I was glad we'd taken the chance to go there.
