Let me start with a casta of characters (and characters, we are):

Me: Angela, 24, :teacher: of 5 year olds, and lover of all things Disney!! Usually, I am not the planning freak, but I took the reigns on this trip and planned everything!! If I would have gotten aboard the plane without my color-coded itinerary, I think I would have :rotfl2:

DF: B.G., 34, :teacher: of high school students. Has been going to Disney since 72. He is a planning freak, he likes to know where he is going to be at all times, and surprisingly didn't mind handing the OCD over to me this time...

Daniel: Best friend of DF. They attended college together, and, despite moving all over the country, have remained close.

Will: Daniel's partner. Nice guy, this was the first time we got to meet him

Tasha: :dogdance: She isn't going on this trip, but she is just so darn cute!!

Staying at the GF July 5-11!!!

We booked our stay at the Grand Floridian in January 2006. We had just returned from WDW and couldn't wait to return. Unfortunately, we found out in March of this year that my FFIL has a disease called Scleroderma, so we were concerned about leaving the area :sad2: . But, he assured us that he was fine. In fact, he actually was a little depressed that he couldn't go with us himself (he loves to go to eat popcorn:: ). On his insistance, we decided to keep everything as planned.

July 4 -
We took the dog to the groomer so that she would smell good for the in-laws, and returned home. It was shortly that the phone rang. It was Mickey calling for BG! :woohoo: He was so excited!! He couldn't believe Mickey called him to tell him good morning and that he was excited to see him "real soon"! I love that DF is so easy to please, I had planned the call months ago (heard about it on the boards), and I almost exploded I was so excited for him! :yay: We wrote down all of the instructions for taking care of our little poochy and headed to drop her off to MIL and FIL.

Our plane was to take off at 6 AM, and it was a 2 hour drive to the airport, so our alarm was set for 2:30. Around 6, we tried to lay down to rest, but we were both "too excited to sleep!!"

July 5 -
Our alarm went off and we jumped out of bed to finish getting ready! I checked all of our luggage to make sure we didn't forget anything, I had my carry-on ready, and hopped in the car to head to the airport. We arrived at the airport around 5:30 and the check in was easy. Not so much at the security line. A gentleman in the front apparently had never been through ariport security before. He took everything out of his carryon and put it into the bin.... piece.......by.....piece......by....piece. Mean while, an announcement coms over stating that all passengers aboard our flight need to be at the departure gate at that time.... The man walks through the security screener, it beeps, and the guard sends him back. He takes his change out.....walks through the screener, again sent back.... he takes something else out of his pocket..... a couple more times through the screener, and   he makes it through!!!!

We head to our gate and make it on the plane just in time! Our flight this time as a connecting flight in Atlanta, so our flight time was just a little less than a hour. Now, I am not a great flyer... I get nervous at landing, but I was looking forward to arriving in Atlanta to get some breakfast. Luckily, this flight was uneventful. After arriving in Atlanta, I headed directly to the Starbucks for a hot chocolate (I need caffeine, but I don't like coffee :crazy2: ) and a muffin. We only had an hour layover, so we ate breakfast and quickly boarded the plane for another uneventful flight.

We landed at MCO at 9:15 and made our way to the Magical Express checkin. From experience, I can tell you that it is so much easier to check in with ME if you are going to the resort on your voucher. I made the mistake on a previous trip of changing our resort while we were in the boarding line at our airport. I don't suggest that to anyone! The ME ride was smooth, we watched classic Mickey cartoons and decided what park we were going to after check-in.

We were met at the lobby by the concierge to be taken to the Sugar Loaf building. We had stayed in the RPC at the GF before, but this trip to SL was a first for both of us. Check-in went smoothly, though we didn't get the Lodge Tower room I was hoping for,and our room wasn't ready. We did, however get a king bed! So, I considered it a success (anyone who has stayed at the GF before knows how hard it is to find a king bed  ).

I had every intention of upgrading our PH tickets to APs because we would be returning in December for our wedding. The CM at the concierge desk overheard us saying that we wanted to go to the MK instead of Epcot (we were also purchasing the DDE), so she arranged for private transportation to the parks so that we wouldn't have to waste "precious vacation time" trading around on the monorail. So, Orlando, a friendly CM, met us in the lobby to transport us to Epcot to get business taken care of, then over to the MK. He and BG talked the whole time about trading cars, car accessories, cars in general. But, we finally made it over to the MK....

I had read on the boards that Disney was doing a soft-opening of POTC, so we headed toward Adventureland first. We were in luck!! :wizard: The wait time said 40 min, but we walked right on. I took some pics, but some turned out a little dark...

I was so excited for this ride!! I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I loved the changes. I think Johnny Depp is so good looking, so I was excited just about the addition of Jack Sparrow!! :woohoo: :dance3: From there, we made our way over to the Haunted Mansion, which only had a 10 minute wait. I love this ride, though we were in line behind a set of small twins who apparently weren't to excited to meet 999 ghosts! But, in the spirit of Disney, their parents drug them on despite the kicking and screaming... :rotfl2: During this ride, the GF called our cell to let us know that our room was ready. For the first time, I took the time to stop and notice the pet cemetery. I don't know if I never noticed it before because I am ditzy that way, or if we were touring WDW commando-style that is the norm with so many other visitors.... :rolleyes1 But, as I told BG on the plane that morning, I was determined to take it slower and enjoy my time, not force us to see and do EVERYTHING!!

We headed over to Pinocchio's Village Haus for lunch before heading back to the GF. I was surprised, I had never eaten there before. I don't know why, but BG thought it was a table service restaurant, and never wanted to eat there. But, I made him enter, despite him telling me that I must have read it wrong on the DIS. I mean come on, NOTHING is wrong on the DIS!!! :rotfl: But we ended up having a great lunch, BG had the turkey panini with fries and I had the Italian sandwich, also with fries. We both liked our sandwiches, but thought the fries left a lot to be desired....

After lunch, we decided to head back to the GF for a light nap. We hadn't slept at all the night before. Besides, traveling and the Florida sun can take a lot out of you. Here is our room at the Sugar Loaf building... Room 6526

Great start so far! Love the pictures. Can you let me know how you got Mickey to call your DF? That sounds like an exciting thing to do for my family before the next trip. Also, congratulations on your future Disney wedding! I'm a Disney bride myself!

Great reporting. Thank you for sharing the fantastic pics. Your room looks very beautiful!

Thank you, we are both SSOOOOO excited about the wedding!! We can't wait!! :Pinkbounc

As for the call, it is called "Disney's Enchanted Call". Click HERE and you can pick between Princesses, Mickey, Pooh, or Tigger and have them call someone special. I chose the "Good Morning" call with the "Going on a Trip" theme.

Hope this helps! :wave2:

Great trip report so far :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read the rest. Good luck on your wedding :bride: and thanks for that phone call info. I will definitly be doing that for our next trip in March 2006

Sounds like yall are having a GREAT time so far!
I love all the pictures, too! :)
Can't wait to read more!

Oh, the GF is the best!! I love it there, if you ever get the chance to go, you won't ever want to stay anywhere else!! :cheer2:

Ok, on with the show!!!

Wednesday evening, it decided to rain.... So, we settled in and decided to hang around the resort for the rest of the night. We went down to the concierge lounge and made a dinner out of the offerings. (Fig stuffed chicken breast, tomato and mozzerella salad, and proscuttio and cheese quiche.... )

DSC00097.jpg

We continued walking around the grounds, taking pictures. I must say, this is a beautiful resort. We were there in December, but didn't have much time to take a walk and enjoy the surroundings. :guilty: We did this time, and I was just amazed....

When we returned, there was a surprise waiting for us in the room. Before this trip, I ordered a small cake to ben sent so that we would be able to taste our wedding cake before the day of the wedding. This is a "Mini Castle Cake" with white chocolate mousse inside. It was just YUMMY!!!

Then, off to bed for a good night's rest. The next day, we head to Epcot!!

Day 2,Thursday- EPCOT, here we come!!

This morning, we had a wake up call at 7am of Stitch sreaming "NO more sleepy!!" That is not the best voice to hear first thing in the morning. We showered and dressed, ready to catch the monorail for morning EMH by 7:45.

We made it through the turnstiles with little to no wait. I was surprised. Usually, I go against the grain and do not go to the parks with the morning EMH, and it is crowded for the rest of the day. But, we always go to Epcot on our first day of WDW, and since we got a late start and made an early night of it on Wednesday, to Epcot, we went. We quickly made our way over to Innoventions West, where we were met by a friendly CM herding us "cattle" to behind a line. Epcot wasn't officially open yet, so we had to wait a few minutes before guests were allowed to make their way over to the rides. This morning was hot, not as hot as we are used to in July, but still hot. Soon, Minnie and Pluto came our way to open the park!!

DSC00143.jpg

BG and I headed to Soarin', which is my favorite ride at Epcot. Our plan was to grab a FP, head to Test Track, then eat breakfast while we waited for our FP time. But like all of the best laid plans.... We were in the very front of the line, so we decided to head onto the ride then. Today was BG's birthday, so we were ushered to the best seats in the house - B1. This ride is great! I can't even tell you how much I  this ride - and I am terrified of heights. After Soarin', we went on Living With The Land.

After brakfast at the FountainView Bakery (we had fruit croissants, but I forgot to take pics.... If you have never had one, you have to try them!!), we walked into the Character Connection. I had never done this before, and it seems to be an untapped resource. There were NO LINES for any of the characters!! We walked right up and had our pictures take with to wait at all, I have never seen anything like it... :wizard:

Test Track was next, which was pretty good. In our car, the sound system was broken, so we couldn't hear what was going on. But, we had been on it so many times before, we knew the spiel.... Once we were done, BG and did a little shopping in Mouse Gears. I try not to make impulse purchases at the beginning of the trip, so we just walked through and looked. I was making mental notes of things I wanted, so I could purchase them before the end of our trip. At 11, we decided to go over to the World Showcase. We had a 200 ADR for Le Cellier, so I wanted to make our way around the WS by that time. In Mexico, we stopped off for a churro. Now, I know they sell these in Frontierland at the MK, but they aren't near as good as they are here! The CM behind the counter saw that it was BG's birthday, so she gave it to him as a B-day gift. That was so nice of her, we had so much pixiedust: on this trip!

We also rode El Rio Del Tiempo, which had no line. But, that is not unusal, I don't think we have ever had more than about 10-15 people in front of us in this line. But I like the ride, it is nice and slow. Plus, it gives you a chance to rest your hot, tired feet. Slowly, we moved around the WS, stopping at Norway to ride Maelstrom. I finally found the woman wearing the Mickey Ears in the mural. I had looked and looked on previous trips, but was never able to locate it. This time, I decided I was going to ask. The friendly CM pointed her out to me, as well as about 5 other HMs in the mural. I never knew there were so many on that wall!! After Norway, BG stated he wanted a pretzel, so we made a pitstop in Germany for him. We met up with some more characters

At the American Adventure, I noticed that the first show didn't start until 12:45, so we walked around and looked at some of the paintings on the wall. I saw this quote, which I absolutely

We did more shopping around the WS and arrived at Le Cellier around 1:45. Now, I am ready for the flaming :furious: , but I have never eaten at this restaurant before. BG and never really do a lot of table service meals on our trips. But, I had heard such great reviews on the DIS, I made sure to get and ADR for this trip. And, man oh man!! You guys are so right! :worship: Lunch was amazing!!

I started out with the cheese soup

BG had the Grilled Steak Burger and I had the French Dip Prime Rib Sandwich

The waiter also brought out a dessert for BG and I - I have no idea why it says "X2"
DSC00192.jpg

We headed back to the GF for a much needed swim and rest beside the pool....

More to come!! :wave2:

I think the "X 2" on the plate is "times two" because it looks like you are both wearing a sticker on your shirts. Is it a Happy birthday sticker? maybe the waiter saw the stickers and thought you were both having a birthday. Anyway, I am loving your report and your pics. thanks!

My button says "It's my fiance's birthday!" I had a friend make it for me before we left. I thought about that too, but the waiter asked me about it when we were seated, and read what it said. He *should have* known that it wasn't my birthday!! But, the mousse was great, no matter what was written on the plate... :rotfl:
